How can I make my 360 RROD?

Here's the story:

1. Bought 360 late in '06
2. It RRODs playing GOW1, MS replaces it
3. Replacement (with not much use, until this summer) video output corrupts (pink, red, green screen) after playing a couple of minutes, works fine after cooling usually - though sometimes will not display video upon boot (sound works)
4. Towel trick will get it back up running for a day (still corrupt screen)
5. Call MS, 3yr warranty good till December - they wont warranty it without RROD or E74 error. They'll fix it for $100

So how can I make it RROD so they'll warranty it?

Soliciting advice on ways to commit fraud, again, will get you RROD... Run Right Out the Door.

I thought the "towel trick" involved wrapping towels around the console, insulating it to cause overheating and RROD? Are you saying that your version of the towel trick actually brings your console back to life? 😕

The towel trick does make it RROD, but after it cools the console actually works better than before - at least for a brief period. Who knows....

Call up MS support and ask them how to make your 360 RRoD. They're very good at making 360s RRoD.

Yeah I don't think this is allowed here.

Turn it off and on about a thousand times. That's how some jackasses got the display model at Wal-Mart to e74.

Out of curiosity, does anyone have any idea what they'll send me back? Will at least be a Falcon? I'd link to think they don't still send out the originals with known problems.

I had that same issue and paid the $100 at the time. A few months ago, MS reimbursed me the cost of the repair, as it basically falls under the same RROD issue. At least that's what I'm guessing because they just refunded it without an email or anything; just showed up on my bank account statement.

Just say it RRoD'd. They won't check.

I got a friend that took his apart, stuck in a bad drive, called and said it was RROD on him all the time, though it was not, and THEY STILL TOOK IT, never bothered to check and see if it been opened, or anything, they said send it in, he did, weeks later he got another 360 and I couldnt believe it!

Something I never would of tried and I told him not to waste his time, they wont fall for it, but they did.

I just LMAO, I just choked on my cheerios reading this. Thanks for that laugh.

Just send it in, they don't check anything and ship out a replacement the same day. I had the exact same issue although my xbox was under a year old.

Also, don't call to create the repair request. Create it online and one of the reasons for repair is "Graphic problems", that is what I used. You don't have to lie.

What you're doing is called FRAUD. Although you probably won't be caught, what you're doing is not cool.

How is it fraud? He has a malfunctioning console that is still under warranty.

The warranty covers RROD/E74 errors. This is not the case with the OP's 360. Therefor, if he wants his fault repaired he should pay the $100.

OP is attempting to defraud MS out of $100 by causing his 360 to fail to the point of a RROD/E74.

Where are you confused?

MS sending the OP a defective console and making him pay $100 to fix it is also not cool.
