How can I gain weight w/o looking fat?

Last year i tried to eat alot to gain weight, i went up to 155lbs. But it all went to the stomach area.

Suggestions?

Why do you want to gain weight? I find advantages to being light. I like the fact that I eat less food and save money.

Lift weights with a set routine and eat a high calorie, high protein diet while doing so. You'll gain gobs of muscle weight. If you are religious and smart about lifting, you can easily gain 10-20 lbs of lean mass in your first 6 months.

yeah work out with weights, muscle weighs more than fat, so u can be cut and be the weight that you want

I think its been pretty well covered, but lift weights, protein supplements, etc. Basicly, add muscle mass.

Muscle weighs more than fat because muscle cells that compose muscle are
denser than fat cells. Why is this? Because fat cell cytoplasm contains
mostly oils (lipids), whereas muscle cell cytoplasm contains mostly
contractile proteins (myosin and actin) suspended in an aqueous (watery)
environment. Lipids in general are less dense than water. You can prove
this by mixing salad oil with water in a bottle and shaking it.
Eventually, the oil will separate from the water and float to the top to
form a lighter layer floating on top of the water. This lowered density of
lipids make fatty tissue less heavy than muscle.

hmm... how about just saying that muscle is more dense than fat? So a pound of muscle takes less space and burns more calories then a pound of fat.

i remember a coach once told me if you want to build mass, do heavier weight with lower reps. like 3 sets of 3 bench, making the last set near impossible (close to your max) so it breaks down the muscle causing your body to build more to handle the new load.

not sure how accurate that is, but it seems to make sense to someone who hasnt peeped in a gym in 10 yrs.
