How can I be awake for 30+ hours straight and not be sleepy?

It's currently about 11:30pm on a Friday and I've been awake since 2pm the previous day. I got 2 hours of sleep Wed. night, went to my Thurs. morning classes and then slept from 9am to 2pm. I pulled an all-nighter last night so I wasn't able to get any sleep. I had a long day of classes and yet I am sitting here at my computer not sleepy at all, a bit worn out but not really sleepy. I'm surprised since I was pretty sleepy in the morning. I haven't taken any naps or anything since I woke up about 33 hours ago, I had a couple of chances but was not tired enough at the time to do so. I also have not had a single drop of coffee, pep pills, or anything like that. At most I had a can of Diet Coke with my lunch. When I pull the rare all nighter, I am always tired as hell the next day but that was not the case today. I'm really confused as how I am able to remain awake and alert.

Yeah, I went on for 40 hours one time... long ass sleep after that. It's a rare occurrence that you're able to stay awake for such a long period of time though.

I hope this doesn't develop into a problem for me. I almost always sleep pretty well, usually 6-8 hours a night despite my busy college schedule.

I think the longest I ever lasted was 52 hours. That sucked hard core. I only got 5 hours of sleep after that too. 9 the next day.

After a certain point (say 36 hours), I reach this state where I feel rested, energetic, and fantastic. About six hours later, I'll crash.

I do it fairly frequently (once every week or two). It usually goes in waves for me.. I'll get sleepy for a bit, then catch my second, third, or fourth wind and carry on. Once you've done it a few times you get used to it .. I find that as long as I'm doing something that's mentally stimulating I can stay up for quite some time.

Welcome to the wonderful world of insomnia. I remember being up at 2-3am wishing I could sleep as early as 7-8 years old, if it doesn't stem from childhood for you then maybe you had something happen to you recently that affected you more than you think? Otherwise just forget how long you've been awake and do what you'd do normally. Watch a film, read a book, sneak off to the local graveyard for a romantic interlude with the recently deceased... it's an unwritten book, my friend.

you start to hallucinate, literally, after around 3-4 days of no sleep and vigorous activity (forced alertness)

Maybe it was 48 hours? I don't remember, but I remember hallucinating after 4. I was staring at a floor tile forever thinking that the creator of the design was a freaking genius because everywhere I looked I saw a indian/cowboy battleground with bison, teepees, everything. Each tile had it's own depiction/painting.

When I finally got to get sleep, I looked at the tiles again, and it's just some ugly brown spotted tile on beige.

I've went about a week with total of 6 hours slept. I miss college 😛

I did that recently with finals week. A few more hours, as some evenings after an all nighter I'd catch a few hour nap and either pull another one or go to bed a few hours later to get back to a regular cycle.

I think I slept about 12 hours max in a 4 day period. That was brutal and my eye got so damn irritated.. from an initial irritation to my eye hurts so bad because I've been constantly rubbing my eye trying to make it feel better. Splash a water here, eye drops there... ugh, eye didn't heal for like another week after that. Still a little tender.

Definitely went close to 48 hours and no sleep. May have went past that, not sure.

hahah college schedule and busy in the same sentence.

It's happens to me a few times a quarter. Sleep schedule gets really wacky during week before and week of finals and somewhere in there I inevitably pull an all nighter but still dont feel that tired the next day. Usually when I do that I'm really tired the next day but the wacky sleep schedule seems to help w/ that
