how bad will i get screwed buying a video card from bestbuy

In 2001/2002 I got a Geforce3Ti200 from them for $149 AR I think. That was a good deal at the time, but not everyone on AT got their rebates for it.

Usually you get the big bone, but watch the sales. I got a great deal from BB on my 3870 during a fire sale to make room for next-gen models.

The one time I've had to buy a video card at Best Buy, the rapeage evened out.

I think I was paying an extra $30 over NewEgg for the model I intended to buy, but I got it home and the card in the box was an upgrade. I thought I was getting a Radeon 2400Pro, card was a 2600.

The shitty thing is, I picked the 2400 because it was the best video card they had that did not require its own power connector - I was replacing a dead unit and the extra $30 was worth not waiting for shipping. The 2600 does need a power plug, so I still had to wait four days for a molex/PEG adapter from NewEgg.

I needed to test some parts I had laying around and needed a PCI-E video card. I paid $85 for a 8400GS. Pwnt

Damn, couldn't find a PCI card?

I've got one PCI video card, one AGP video card, and one PCI-E video card all lying around for these situations...

Just walking in, you'll most likely get raped. I've gotten a couple of good cards, at good prices. Look for the sales.

HAHAHA!

Best Buy is great if you can find a hot deal or price match.

Please don't tell me BB is still selling Ti200s for $79.

I'm assuming you're referring to several years ago though.

Back in the day I paid $267.99 for my ATi Radeon 9800 Pro at Best Buy. At the time the prices online were the same. I'm not sure about now though. I haven't been in a BB in over a year.

I got my current card from BestBuy. A 7900GS for $45 back when it was a mid-range card going for $200+ most places. Their everyday prices suck seeds, but if you get lucky and find a closeout you can get a really good deal.

I got in on that deal also, picked up three 7900GS cards for like $150 and eBayed them for $350 (after fees & etc).

I got my 4850 the day before they released for 150 bucks.... the card is still selling for around tthat much 😛

yeah ive noticed the prices holding with the 4850s and what not.

BB happened to have a 25% off sale on all visiontech cards that ended the day before the 4850 came out, they had shelved them already and I snagged one for 200 - 25%

Got in on that deal also - but didn't work out as well, my card ran waaay too hot even with the fan mod and was unstable in WoW & a few other games. Took it back, got a refund, grabbed a cheap 8800GTS from the FS forum instead.

just price check versus online stores before you go in to buy

...and we have a winner! Here's the best option - know what card you want & how much it costs online before you go buy anything at BB. That way you know whether they're using lube or not when they bend you over.

Best Buys price raping on PC hardware is pretty much the same as radio shacks...except the stuff isn't unique or rare and the selection is also horrible.

I don't even go there if I need something, its just horrible. It does seem like their high end stuff is close to normal but their low end stuff is like 3x as expensive.
