Post up the target marks like this for english and math:

White Target: 86%
White Actual: 83%
Black Target: 78%
Black Actual: 76%
Hispanic Target: 74%
Hispanic Actual: 73%
SES Target: 60%
SES Actual: 57%

Sadly, I heard a spanish boy and a white boy arguing about how he did just as "good" since white kids are smarter. I interupted and said that it's not true at all and color plays no part in how smart you are or how well you will do.

The kid took me to the poster, I then noticed them in almost every hallway.

I do work inside schools some of the time and one of my projects is at a K-8 public school right now.

Kids see this and then just shoot for the benchmarks.

Personally if I had a child I would find this kind of thing offensive enough to petition against such bullshit. This is ingraining racism into young minds.

It may play some part in intelligence. It definitely plays a part in how well you are likely to do (as there are racial disparities in many areas of society).

I agree with you that if posters actually exist like this in schools (seems surprising), they aren't really helpful.

Take a picture of the poster and post it on the internet... Stuff like that needs to be made public, and it won't just from your post on this forum.

That reminds me a few years back on of the school district was caught having segregated assemblies for the standardized test.

A few days before the annual standardized testing would begin they held an assembly to motivate and prepare the students. The problem is they didn't have 1 assembly, they had multiple. They had a white assembly for the white kids, a black assembly for the black kids, an Asian one for the Asian kids, and a Hispanic one for the Hispanic kids. So each group got a different assembly.

Terrible.

I can find nothing on google about florida schools having different targets for races. They may indeed have some, but overt on the school walls? I am having a very difficult time buying it.

No Child Left Behind requires schools and districts to achieve set goals. Every group of students — including minorities, English language learners — and students from low-income families, must meet the same targets.

Agreed, take a picture and disseminate it to the local news and spread it online.

Back home, people would travel 2+ hours to the nearest historically black university to take state exams for various certifications (ie speech pathology). It was widely believed that the "versions" administered at those schools were easier to pass than the ones administered at historically white institutions. Not sure if that still goes on, hopefully this "unwritten anomaly" has been reformed.

Yeah, right. Go visit a school, at least around here it's standard.

Wow thanks for doing the research on me being in Florida.

Anywho, just seeding google with "florida white black hispanic ses fcat" shows some trends.

The FCAT is the main drive in this. It's how schools get budgets and how parents get happy with extra curricular and bumper stickers.

What if you're mixed race? Take the weighted average?

What about Asians? 100% target?

js80 : those made me lol !

I don't think 'benchmarks' have any effect on kids or their racial background.

Different races for the most part grow up in different environments. You don't find many suburbs full of blacks and hispanics where they have your typical american home life. Alot of people growing up in apartments w\ gang activity and what have you... little to no supervision...

I like to use my old downstairs neighbors as examples. They had 5-6 kids who they just sent outside to the parking lot to play. Unsupervised. The youngest being probably 2 years old.

You can't tell me they are going to grow up w\ the same opportunity as I did growing up in a suburb where my mom stayed at home to take care of us and dad went to work all day.

It's totally different when your parents stay at home drinking and smoking weed all day and leave you to the streets to grow up.

Sadly, the "solution" to this problem will likely involve setting everyone to the SES target.

I see you didn't include Asians. Why not?

While I can see this happening in the background, I can't possibly see this being posted on the walls of a school. :hmm:

First, I find it hard to believe these stats if correct were made into a poster. Second, I find it even harder to believe these "posters" were plastered all over a school. Third, given alky's rep, I'd bet there's something he's not telling us even if the first two were to be true.

At least they are being transparent...

From my experience, it seems that elementary / high schools only consider three races: White, Black and Hispanic. I'm guessing Asian / Indian = white?

First and foremost, I have never lied here.

It's not a poster as far as printed...they are white poster paper with sharpies.

What do you think I don't tell in my posts?

This thread is worthless without pics. And no, not pics of Dillards receipts.
