troll your boat somewhere else, son.

"Oh my god, different standards for different race kids posted on the wall! AT P&N MUST hear about this immediately! No time to snap a picture with my phone!"

I just asked someone who would know about KY schools and just as I suspected, there are targets by race but they are not published except to the school personnel (teachers, administrators, etc). I find it "tacky" (and TBH, unlikely) that it would be placed on posters throughout the school.

It doesn't seem likely. Perhaps alkemyst heard this second-hand and is passing on an urban legend as personal experience.

I'm afraid I'm going to need pics of the vinegar release form before I'll accept this as real.

Wow, someone must have put up the poster at the wrong place by mistake. No school district would be dumb enough to post that in public places on purposes. I mean, think of the backlash. And do you think the supernintendent or whoever oversees the principal is going to protect his ass when lynch mobs start forming?

NCLB says the goals are the same for all races. I know that education is pretty fucked up in Florida, but I'd have a hard time believing they're THAT stupid.

So people get their panties in a wad about "racism" posters plastered all around the school, but not about giving the "minorities" favorable targets scores? If you want equality, then hold everyone to the same friggin "equal" standards.

My problem is no one seems to have a problem with this. Even in talking to other parents they state it's the only way to get 'school' grades up.

We have a thing here that the entire school gets graded based on the attendees FCAT scores. "A" schools get the most funding, "F" schools don't get any.

However, it's definitely teaching the kids to just hit their targets and not all kids are equal.

i think this is a situation where without pics the story is rather unbelievable. Not that they have different %'s but the fact they would put it on a poster.

People aren't questioning that a test would have different short-term targets for improvement for each group.

If low income children currently score 30% on test X while upper-10% family children score 80%, it's common to have different short-term goals like raising the first group up to 40% next year vs. 85% for the wealthy kids. A 33% improvement seems more realistic and attainable in the short term than a 283% improvement.

What is being questioned is your claim that you have seen a poster on the wall for the kids themselves to look at, that tells them the goals for their group, and that children are using that poster as an excuse to limit their efforts.

That sounds more like you're repeating an email forward or a story that you heard from someone else.

You really don't get it? It's not unbelievable that there are different targets for the different races based on their performance, which everybody knows is different.

What's unbelievable is that the school fucking posts them, humiliating students.

Post a god damn picture already. Why all the stalling? I'm ready to call shenanigans. You are probably trolling. Typical rightwinger. Post a picture or stop making allegations like this.

I will not be posting a picture...there is no way I want to link posting that directly to the school.

Believe or not believe. There are hand made posters with these breakdowns in the school buildings and office, in plain sight.

I am pretty liberal, but I don't think it's right and even if I am not believed as far as these posters go, it's clear many have looking up the same breakdowns above.

I choose "not believe."

Also I motion that alkemyst's credibility account be deducted 5 points.

It may play some part in intelligence. It definitely plays a part in how well you are likelyto do (as there are racial disparities in many areas of society).

I just wanted to point out that this isn't accurate (or at least I have never seen any scientific justification of what you're saying).

Race plays as much a part in how well a student is likely to do as monthly snow shovel sales plays a part in monthly toque sales.

Saying something 'plays a part' is saying that it is a contributing factor. It is certainly a predictive factor, but I doubt it is a contributing one.

And would you honestly expect there to be a scientific study, looking for contributing factors? The study would be flamed as racist before it got off the printing press.

I'm not dismissing the possibility that there are factors which make people of certain race genetically predisposed to certain behavior. What pisses me off, though, is people who claim everyone is equal from one side of their mouth, and then demand certain races be given special treatment and favors out the other side.

Actually there are tons of field trials with race as a criteria.

However, the studies have shown it's really economic status that determines how well one does. Richer parents have more free time to talk to their kids and quiz them especially over summer and other breaks.

In the beginning everyone starts out the same...however; each year the 'poorer' kids fall behind a little more...by graduation the differences are readily apparent.

It's easy to say more of the poor are minorities and that that must be the reason.

nobody is saying that they don't have different %'s for different races. What we are saying is that we don't believe that they would put it on a poster in the school. that is the part we are calling shens on.

Are you afraid someone will see you taking the picture and once the media gets hold of it you'll get fired?
