Say what you want. At the end of the day America is the greatest country on the planet when it comes to race/culture integration.

Sure, it's not perfect, but it's as close to perfection as you get (on this planet)

When I went back to Poland last year I was appalled that there is still racists in that country due to our history. Heck not only racists but plenty of Hitler humpers. To think that Nazis STILL have influence on people that they have brought so much pain/death is just beyond me.

I won't even get into how other races get treated. It's really sad to see that ANY racism exists in that country.

I was ashamed of my own country...

Of course it's on a small scale and there is a very small percentage of idiots, but still.

So proportionally, do you think Poland has less racist than the U.S?

Do you realize that you're breaking the "south is full of racist hicks" stereotype?

I'll say this--while South Carolina is one of the most racist, bigoted places I am familiar with (never really tread into Mississippi or Alabama), it is populated with, by far, the nicest people anywhere.

meaning--the default assumption for a South Carolinian when meeting a stranger is that the stranger is not a minority, illegal-loving, homo.

This was re-confirmed on my most recent treck through the state, and stopping twice at various places (~3 weeks ago).

Even so, I think the stereotype is a bit unfair (I'm more than guilty of perpetuating this stereotype), because in person, people there are absolutely happy to be interacting with anyone.

now, if only their voting record could aline with their apparent desire to create and live in a happy, sociable community. :hmm:

highly doubtful.

It really doesn't take too long visiting northern/eastern--hell, several parts of western europe--to be somewhat shocked by the level of racism in these regions. Especially as compared to that in the US.

Thing is, we have a much longer time dealing with integration than most other places.

Also bear in mind that European countries have really only been at peace with each other for roughly 70 years. And you still see bitter resentments today.

http://abclocal.go.com/kgo/story?section=news/local/east_bay&id=7396508

Editor’s Note: On Friday, April 23, Rev. Amos Brown, president of NAACP's San Francisco chapter, gathered members of the city's Asian and African-American community, church and business leaders to come up with a course of action to end the recent string of violent acts in the city involving the two communities. "New America Now’s" Odette Keeley talked to some of the leaders present at that meeting; this piece is reposted at their request.

Rev. Amos Brown told the group that the NAACP denounces these violent acts, saying “when young African Americans prey on vulnerable Asians, that’s a no – no”. He stressed the historic advocacy role of the NAACP in the outrage over these incidents saying, “when marginalized people like blacks, gays or Asians are wronged, somebody has to speak up on their behalf.” Brown says he called for this “no-nonsense, non-political meeting so that we can deal with the crisis to make sure it’s not just an issue of transition in our city, which means people move in and out, but instead it becomes an opportunity for transformation for all our peoples.”

In January, 83-year old Huan Chen was kicked and beaten as he left the Muni stop at Third and Oakdale in Bayview-Hunters Point in San Francisco. He died about three months later.

Then in March, five teenagers surrounded a 57-year old woman at the same Muni stop. Surveillance camera video from the second incident shows one of her assailants grabbing the victim by the neck and throwing her from the platform. A few days later, a group of teenagers assaulted a Muni rider on Third and Williams streets.

Police say the alleged assailants in these cases in Bayview-Hunters Point were all African Americans while their victims were all Asians. But they also told news reporters that they don’t believe these attacks were racially motivated.

In Oakland, two 18-year-old African-American men were charged with murder last Thursday in the fatal beating of a 59-year-old Chinese-American who had come to the aid of his son. After the attack on April 16, both father and son were hospitalized and the father died on April 20.

If you're asian, stay the FUCK outta oakland.

is Daly City part of Oakland?

No? Then who cares ;)

I hear Daly City is the best Dim Sum. Oakland has the 2nd best. There are also a lot of great restaurants dotted throughout Oak/Berk/Albany (though Berkeley mostly sucks--the only good one burned down. Eh, same with the good place in Albany, actually. ....:hmm:)

I'll take "best dim sum and not getting jumped by thugs" for 1000.

The unfortunate reality is that SC lies between FL and NC, and one can not avoid it during the drive.

We stopped in Santee to purchase some red neck paraphernalia to bring back to the lab as gifts (mostly all Eurpoeans). As soon as I got out of the car to go into the large trashy giftshop in Santee, some crusty old octogenarian veteran offered to sell me his T-shirt for $5 (After explaining that I was looking for redneck junk). It was one of those "beach" T-shirts with some big-tittied ho on the back, in a bikini, with some sort of south will rise again slogan...something like that.

seriously: incredibly nice people :D

So proportionally, do you think Poland has less racist than the U.S?

Good question. Really hard to answer that one to be honest.

Keep in mind outside of Jews and very little Asian/African residents Poland has VERY little experience with different races in general. If it was on the scale of diversity of US, who knows.

It also depends on what kind of racists are we talking about. I believe EVERYONE has a little bit of a racism in them. Some just joke about it, some really hate and some want to kill.

It's the last 2 I have a problem with.

Anyways, ANY way you look at it and even though we do have lot of racism in US, it is simply amazing that so many different races can coexist together in one place and be quite peaceful.

If you look around the world, most wars are started due to race or religion. It's an infinite loop of war.

PS. I understand US is not perfect (far from it) but it is the best this planet got to offer when it comes to coexistence of different diversity.

has it ever occured to you that maybe hardcore soccer fans aren't all that representative of the rest of society?
it's a well known fact (for europeans anyway) that many groups of ultras and casuals etc have ties to nationalist and supremacy groups.

I reckon that you were not born before the Rodney King riot? When blacks picked and chose Asian stores to loot and burn.
