It depends where you go in the "South". In general, it is the least educated/poorest part of our country so better to stay away. Oh, and add WV to that (though technically not in the South).

The NE is hit or miss, probably the only major city I'd stay away from is Boston. For whatever reason, they have the least integration of the major cities in the NE. NY/NYC, Philly, Baltimore and DC metro areas are fine. I'd say once you get to Richmond, VA area is where the "South" begins. Or some would argue NC.

Out of all the minorities though, I'd say Asians are treated/viewed the best in this country.

agreed, Richmond and south is where I would start to worry more, but even then not TOO much. North east from boston to DC should be more or less just fine with asians. I have never seen much hate towards them in the DC area, nor when I go up to NYC.

I'm Asian growing up in the South. It was a bit rough in middleschool but kids will be kids, it never really fucked with my head too much. I was pretty much the only Asian in a predominantly white school, and because of that, I mostly have only dated white women (I dated one Asian girl in college). I actually have the worst luck when it comes to Asian girls.

I'm now in my 30s, and I cannot recall a single moment where I experience 'racism' in the past 10 years.

Do you realize that you're breaking the "south is full of racist hicks" stereotype?

Maybe for the same reason the Phd nerds are stereotyped as being as being asexual, the Jewish guy as being sheltered and living with his mom, the comic book store proprietor as being awkward around women... in other words the entire show is nothing but a collection of stereotypes presented in a humorous way?
FIFY.

Whats up with all the South stuff. People in the south are much nicer than the North. People up north are so damn unhappy.

Tho Louisiana could be rough tho. Its the only place that I was harassed for being asian.

I find that to be mostly untrue, a random stranger is not gonna be that nice, but if you work with someone or see someone regularly then you are going to become friends and be nice, the problem is there are so many people here. you see different people every day and you just don't care enough to be nice to them. again if i see someone i know i will be nice, but not to a random person unless im trying to make a good impression.

You know, maybe I lucked out and if I am, I'm very glad that I did but I can honestly say I have not encountered much racism at all (knock on wood). Maybe I have encountered racist people, but they have all kept it to themselves. I currently live in Texas.

I'm Japanese.

Some people at my school call me a beloved patriot and racist jokes about people dying when they dropped the atomic bomb and small eyes and shit

Yup. Good ol north carolina

I predict you'll see a 96% reduction in these things when you leave high school(and especially if you go to college). It did for me and I've lived in NC for the past 21 years and I was 14 when I got here.

The more corporate/academic/professional environment you put yourself in, the less of it you'll experience.

You won't get away from it as much if you play sports or go to the mountains, though, but I experience so little of it these days that I probably just notice it more now as it's out of the ordinary.

High scool can be a pit of hell for anyone that's different in any way (read everyone).

o rly. most of my experience with southerners involves them telling me how much better the south is than the north and how shitty us northerners treat each other :p

my upbringing was tainted due to the large university with TONS of foreign nationals, especially korean and chinese, going to school here, so I am around FOB's all the time

American high schools are basically prison/lord of the flies simulators. Since the United States has the highest number of its citizens incarcerated per capita its important our children are taught how to navigate the world they will encounter during adulthood.

Unfortunately adulthood is much much harder than anything a high schooler will ever face, it's just that we developed that "don't give a fuck" attitude so that's how we manage it from day to day :D

Middleschool and highschool was pretty rough for me as I was the only Asian kid, but I never used any of the shit I face as an excuse for sympathy or anything for that matter.

I heard pretty nasty things about how Asians are treated in the U.S and I just want to see what you guys have personally experienced with or around them.

Just some honesty would be nice since I heard some major horror stories about discrimination against Asians.

I have some friends that are coming to the U.S from Asia and I just want to reassure them that they aren't going to get hurt.. either mentally or physically.

However, I don't want to lie.

if Asians are worried about being discriminated in the US, in general, then:

--these Asians should fucking grow a pair.
--these Asians should try and be black for a few days. Then grow a pair.

seriously....this is the dumbest shit.

Every time I see an Asian while I'm walking down the sidewalk I make sure to cross the street before I pass him. I also put my hand on my gun just in case I need a quick draw.

There's jerks and assholes everywhere, but I think the majority of us over here are pretty friendly and don't give a shit what race or ethnicity somebody is.

Sure those of us who have lived in the US all our lives might comment about accents sometimes, but, the truth is, there's a healthy sized Asian population in most major US Cities. I can tell you that in the NW Suburbs of Chicago, there are Asians living comfortably in most nicer neighborhoods, as well as some enclave type areas like Chinatown or Korean neighborhoods.

Anyhow, I know there is still racism out there, but I think things are generally pretty good in the Chicago area.

What are you talking about...blacks treat Asians terribly!

I some times get the feeling that black people can be the most racist in America.
we have the same problem with muslim immigrants here, I've never seen an immigrant get jumped by white people for being an immigrant, but I've seen it the other way around plenty of times(including myself).

around here latinos have it the worst

everyone assumes they are a dirtbag that came over illegally

and I would agree at least local to me that the biggest overt racists are ghetto african americans, followed shortly by rednecks

while we have a large asian and latino population, we do not have much of presence of gangs outside of black gangs(thanks a (*#&@$ lot chicago) so that could be skewing it for my area
