yupp... lazy ass potheads, that's all that is to it.

Your friends have no self control and are poster children for not using drugs.

I've been very deep into the scene, and came back out.

Yes, but obviously, pot is a gateway drug, as my friend who was once a pothead can be considered a crackhead.

I know that I can turn down their offers, I have enough self-control, but just the thought of hanging out with a person who does not care about anything except where to get his next 'fix' is disturbing and very depressing.

It's good to see that government sponsored propaganda still works on people that aren't very bright. It's probably for the best, though, as I doubt that people who believe that stuff would be able to control their drug use.

Ya the gateway drug catch phrase is second best PR spin term right after flip flopper.

Pot isn't really that bad by itself as long as you don't let using it become a habit, and regardless of what you may have been told it doesn't make you use any other drug or destroy your life but it can make you lazy & unmotivated as well as do serious damage to your lungs. Heroin is bad news as is any addictive drug like it, including most pain killers, anti-depressants & sedatives but you won't be instantly addicted to any of them, although the danger of liking them so much you keep using until you are is very real. Cocaine & to an even greater degree Crack cocaine is extremely addictive the first time you use it & once is all it takes to be hooked.
The best advice I can give you is to avoid any of your friends who use any hard drugs at all, as well as avoiding those who smoke pot more then once in a while in social situations.. same goes for drinking alcohol or doing anything else self-destructive.

Unfortunately, far more people are like them than like you.

There are a lot of bright people i know that smoke weed (myself included) and have done acid and stuff like that. Drugs that cause no physical addiction aren't a problem untill you make it one. I personally don't really consider weed a drug.

Stay away from synthetic drugs though... general rule of thumb is if it was made in lab, it's bound to by physically adictive. I have friends that cannot resist buying coke if the opportunity arises... when you lose self control, it's becomes a problem.

same situation for me...just have set up a voice mail that says "I've moved on with my life...and I had to drop some baggage on the way...if I don't call you back it's because you were one of them"
