With incumbents being very likely to win reelection, due to a variety of factors (voter laziness, the redistricting BS they pull, single-issue voters, you name it), it seems they don't have much reason to even try to work.I'll give them the benefit of the doubt, and guess that the state senators were too lazy to bother to read the bill that their staff wrote for them.
I can understand that somewhat for a 1,024 page bill that was the result of months of work by a team of staffers. But this bill was only eight pages long.
Not making the effort to read a short bill on a divisive subject like gun control is just not doing your job.
Heh the idiot who sponsered the bill now condems it. These liberals just cant help themselves in exploiting a tragedy for a power grab.
Sounds like the time McConnel filibustered his own bill 😀
The problem with a bill like this isn't even the bill itself. This thing really had no chance of passing with a stupid and unconstitutional provision like that. And even if it had passed it would easily have been struck down upon challenge. The problem with a bill like this is that it fuels the Republican paranoia that was already at a dangerously high level.

What's the problem, if you've got nothing to hide right... 🙄
Yup exactly what I was thinking.
Here's my issue and why I can't five them the benefit of a doubt: regardless if the main sponsor read the whole thing, he had to have advised and directed the main points of the bill to his staffers (who obviously would write the language). I can't fathom that a staffer would risk their career by putting in their own thoughts into a bill. Maybe I'm naive, but I find it hard to believe that was a mistake.

Damn right! I welcome the search ... I feel anyone wanting to own a assault weapon is half way to being mentally challenged anyway. They should be investigated.
This was an article by democrats about democrats that realized they introduced a piece of legislation they thought would not pass and therefore put an unconstitutional idea in it to show the intention, that assault rifles that were legal in the bill should be stored safely. The democrats realized themselves this would be illegal, that it was a bad idea and that it would harm their intention to pass meaningful gun legislation. In short, democrats figured out they did something stupid and regret it because violating the constitution was not the intention. This tells us that democrats in the Seattle area want to pass gun laws that reasonable people support and will pass. The actual facts of the case, however, will matter little to the paranoid delusional gun psychopaths for whom guns are a religion. They will have their usual psychotic reactions and make thinking impartial people hysterical with laughter.
If they are so smart,
Why was it written in the first place?
hmmm? hmmm?
and can you blame them!? lol this is exactly what many pro-gun people are claiming will happen. then they try it..
No it's when children are killed by some insane nut, and the NRA spokesperson comes up with dumb tone deaf talking points (blaming video games and advocating armed guards when the armed guard didn't stop columbine) that raises the ire of people who usually don't give a crap about gun control. Then those people start asking questions...
Then we get "Oh it must've been an inside job to give the president enough support to finally grab the guns" from the truly idiotic tinfoil hatters.
An assault weapons ban and 10 round mags didn't stop Columbine either but plenty of democrats have came out with those talking points including the president.
It has nothing to do with smart. It has to do with the fact that democrats are open to self correcting. Read, open to it, not perfect or perfectly self correcting. And it says why right in the article and in my post. Learn to read what is written not see the same shit written as is in your head. You are a brainwashed goon and all you can see is the shit brainwashed into you. You are a robot and a puppet. Start to examine yourself so you can think for yourself instead of vomit what you were force fed at your favorite partisan tit. You are too old to be nursing.

I don't have any firearms. What do I win?
