How about police coming inside, once a year, to have a look around?

Not sure how you guys missed this news article today. Some gems from inside.

One of the major gun-control efforts in Olympia this session calls for the sheriff to inspect the homes of assault-weapon owners. The bill’s backers say that was a mistake.

That lawmakers sponsor bills they haven’t read is common. Still, it’s disappointing on one of this political magnitude. Not counting a long table, it’s only an eight-page bill.

“I’m a liberal Democrat — I’ve voted for only one Republican in my life,” Palmer told me. “But now I understand why my right-wing opponents worry about having to fight a government takeover.”

He added: “It’s exactly this sort of thing that drives people into the arms of the NRA.”

I have been blasting the NRA for its paranoia in the gun-control debate. But Palmer is right — you can’t fully blame them, when cops going door-to-door shows up in legislation.

Glad I'm not anywhere NEAR Cali Washington, hahaha.

How do you "mistakenly" add in door to door searches for assault weapons? Do they think the public is really THAT stupid?

oh wait.....

oh wait.....

It's the same thing as the Obamacare legislation. Politicians, with intentions, don't stop to think what they are doing.

I don't think a lot of them ever stopped to read the Constitution.

No surprise to me that Democrats try to pass this kind of thing. It's why I find it funny when the usual progressive/Democrat suspects in the forum accuse conservatives of being paranoid or seeing black helicopters.

I'll give them the benefit of the doubt, and guess that the state senators were too lazy to bother to read the bill that their staff wrote for them.

I can understand that somewhat for a 1,024 page bill that was the result of months of work by a team of staffers. But this bill was only eight pages long.

Not making the effort to read a short bill on a divisive subject like gun control is just not doing your job.

It normally takes them small steps to go this far.

like 30 rounds, down to 20, down to 10, then 7.

Oh wait. That snowballing is a myth. That would never happen. We are being unreasonable we should come to the table and give up some of rights now, because then they wont feel so bad.

This is the real issue. I understand that some are 1,000 pages which says to me you should be all the more vigilant. If we don't we stand to have this happen in perpetuity. I want "something done" about this rubber stamp shit.

You have no idea how true this is. I never even visited the NRA's website before this year. Now I'm a lifetime member, and all the guys on my local gun forum are signing up in droves (there are membership threads a couples times a week).

The NRA's coffers are getting VERY fat right now. Not to mention other gun rights groups.

2014 is going to be a messy year for Democrats in a lot of states if these gun control measures come to pass.

Lol whoops thats embarrassing. Washington, yea! All those west coast crazy states are the same :p

Personally I'd love to spend some time in Boston, as I hear florida is great this time of year...... ;D

on topic: Holy epic fail. This is to democrats as vaginastuff is to republicans.

I really do wonder who actually put that section in if everyone is saying "oh yeah, we never saw that, sorry!"

It violates the 4th Amendment. It's not the only law to do so....

As another poster said it's funny when some say "If you're not doing anything wrong what's the problem." Until it touches upon something they're sensitive about.

It's wrong on principle. The police need more than just "just checking" as a reason to search your papers and effects....

That was me, and I was being sarcastic in a roundabout way of making that very same point. That's what people say, until it's something they are sensitive about.

I believe this was struck down. I love my state SOOOO much sometimes.

Anyway, yeah - canada already has this as law. If you own guns in canada, cops can search your place any time they like.

Here's my issue and why I can't five them the benefit of a doubt: regardless if the main sponsor read the whole thing, he had to have advised and directed the main points of the bill to his staffers (who obviously would write the language). I can't fathom that a staffer would risk their career by putting in their own thoughts into a bill. Maybe I'm naive, but I find it hard to believe that was a mistake.

anyone that really thinks this was a mistake is insane. I don't think they thought it would get so much flack

No. They can NOT search my place. Nothing to hide but that doesn't matter. It isn't their business and I am supposed to be protected against such things by the Constitution. The USA is not supposed to be a police state

Someone voting for a law they haven't even read should immediately lose their position.
