That's the thing that eludes me with America receding from patrolling and securing international shipping routes.. Cause globalization is another method of having shit done for you dirt cheap without calling it slavery. Well one aspect of it. It stands to reason from a geopolitical perspective that you would seek to extend that advantage with the dollar being the de facto internationally recognized currency ... Is Chinese labor not cheap anymore?
bingo.

We don't care any more.

Chinese labor is not cheap any more. There is more then just the $ cost. Those tankers, they are our competitors.

This is primarily a shipping route to China. If the Chinese want to put boots on the ground in Yemen, I think everyone is going to get some pretzels out.

So maybe China / Russia / Iran control that water way now. Heck of an economic boon to them. They could blackmail Europe with the Suez under their control.
Sounds like the East wants more absolute control over the Suez than they have today.
Suppose we're going to sit back and watch them take it.

Russia and Iran Plot to Arm Houthis with Advanced Anti-Ship Cruise Missiles – Reuters

Russia, with Iran’s mediation, is reportedly holding secret talks with Yemen's Houthi rebels about supplying P-800 Oniks (Yakhont) anti-ship cruise missiles, according to Reuters, citing Western and regional sources.

Makes sense since Russia probably has a bunch of missiles with no more boats to put them on.

World. War.

With Russia, this had nothing to do with Israel. In fact. One might say Russia fueled Iran -> Hamas to start the regional war in the Middle East. To distract us from their Genocide in Europe. To further their aims, Russia wants to set the world on fire. And so long as we sit back and watch, it's working. A sustained blockade and attack on Russia is long over due.

If they want to close the Red Sea, we must close the Baltic Sea. No ships to Russian ports.

Moscow’s assistance in attacks that are disrupting trade shows how the Kremlin is seeking to tie up the U.S. in the Middle East

Always thought it was done by Russia.

Sad thing this election is about much more than just Trump..

If he wins.. Iran, Russia and China have won for the next 4 years.. possibly for the next 50-500 years.

Houthis, supplied by Russia and Iran, have effective control over the Suez Canal via the Red Sea. Plunging Egypt into turmoil.

So instead of killing the attackers, the Houthis, we are going to let them choke a vital artery, risking Egypt falling... maybe Islamic revolution... and probably forcing us to put Egypt down like a rabid dog instead of dealing with the source(s) of the problem.

Suez Canal revenues plunge by 60 percent as Egypt faces economic and political turmoil

The drop of over $7 billion comes amid Red Sea tensions, worsening Cairo's economic crisis

What are my tax dollars paying for if we don't have satellites parked over that whole area and making sure any detected launch site is turned into a smoking crater within minutes?

A world without free navigation of the seas.
The era of United States power keeping ocean trade and navigation relatively safe from attack.
Those days are over. I don't think people quite realize the cost. Or how it will spread.

Four dead as Houthis sink second Red Sea cargo ship in days

Was kind of concerned about that report. But count on fucking ABC (or US media) to leave out critical context. The ship was heading for Israel. The Houthis have already attacked over a 100 ships, sunk 2 since November 2023.

Although am against attacking civilian or cargo ships regardless of their destination, at least its not a random attack vs any ship, which would escalate the situation, involve more countries and drive up shipping/insurance rates much higher.

"A world without free navigation of the seas."... well its already a world with a broken down international order and rule of law when countries can attack any other countries for whatever pretext or conduct and enable genocides to occur.

Remember the group chat that leaked which explicitly stated the reason for the US operation in Yemen was to restore freedom of navigation and that we were the only ones who could do it and that everybody (particularly the Euros) should thank us? Lol.

We threw a billion dollars worth of munitions and a dozen MQ-9s into the Yemeni desert and accomplished jack shit. Then declared peace and left.

No surprise here. Yemen is all in on that "forever war".
Thus far they have proven that the Red Sea belongs to them, and no bombs can change that.

Exclusive interview: Houthi official says fighting will continue 'until Israel is erased'

Ynet, Israeli propaganda site doing what they do best, stir up propaganda citing an anonymous Houthi official. The Houthis are already on record that their attacks on Israel and shipping to its ports will stop only when the genocide vs the Pals stops. They are a far lesser evil than the other side.

I think I see a pattern. And it's probably related to Trump's attention span.
