some of the best clubs in the city on are the list of clubs that must close.

i also have to wonder how many locations in this city (that aren't in the middle of a refinery) are not within 1500 feet of a school, church, park, or other "sensitive" locations? that's more than a quarter mile.

houston had been in the top tier of strip club cities, after vegas. no more athletes will be moving here, i guess.

yay authoritarianism.

"It's hard to legislate morality," said Thomas Venza, a manager at Centerfolds Adult Entertainment, in the 6100 block of Richmond. "If you don't agree with it, don't go."

about sums it for me.

it should be.

they tried something like that where i live. the town passed a law that no porn shops or strip joint can be in town. they told the one porn shop in town they have to close or move out of town.

the store (wich has been in town like 30 years) said fvck you and took them to court. they won.

Modern strip clubs are for people with more money than brains. I might pay for pleasin' but I won't pay for teasin!'

I don't go to strip clubs, and I don't live in the Houston area. I'm still upset because I see it as a rights issue. They're closing legal businesses who have done nothing wrong. They're also limiting the choices that adults can make under some "it's for the kids" BS. If the establishment was letting kids in, then punish it for the specific illegal act. I'm even okay with restricting how the business advertises and what can be seen from the outside. There was no reason to make them close, except for the fact that they were trying to legislate their version of morality under the guise of saving children.

If they can get away with that there, then they can get away with it where you live. More importantly, they can get away with it where I live.

The city has ordered more than 100 adult cabarets, bookstores and other so-called sexually oriented businesses to close down their operations or face criminal and civil penalties, according to warning letters obtained by the Houston Chronicle.

Yep, No sex for Houstonians.

Are they renaming Houston to Houston Tabernacle?

In a trial earlier this year, U.S. District Judge Nancy Atlas ruled the ordinance's distance provisions didn't violate the business owners' rights to commercial speech, finding there were sufficient alternative sites for them to locate when the council passed the ordinance a decade ago.
If these businesses were operating prior to the 1997 law, the council or city should pay all the costs of relocating these businesses as well as profits lost.

It should also gold bullion from the sky into my back yard. That has about the same odds of occurring.

Slow march towards Theocracy FTL.... and I am Christian.

Legislating religous morality is a sure fire way to ruin the value of that religion.....
