Right now it seems there's no 1/2 way viable "candidate" to fill the SOH position. Jordan? Gag me with a spoon. Scalise? He's in treatment for blood cancer and was fucked up bad in gun attack of... softball game in D.C.? The Republican Party lacks leadership. They are a ship without a keel or rudder much less a captain.

Going to enjoy 40days of popcorn munching while watching the circus.

Then nail biting as the 45day budget expires
Forgot to add to my question last night about requiring a speaker vs funding the government bill. Wonder if a discharge petition is a viable option?

In the U.S. House, successful discharge petitions are rare, as the signatures of an absolute majority of House members are required.[2]

So 218 and not just half+1 of the people that voted.
So unlikely

Rep. Dave Joyce of Ohio, chairman of the Republican Governance Group, went even further, saying none of the eight McCarthy detractors deserve to be part of their conference.

“I don’t see how they can really be part of a conference when they come on the inside, listen to what is going on, and then going outside and lob bombs into the middle,” Joyce said on CNN’s “Inside Politics.” “It’s a waste of time having conversations with these people.”

Took him this long to realize that? o_O

But if they expel all of them, they lose their majority. So they won’t cut off their nose to spite their face. And in special election to fill vacancy, Gaetz is likely to win if he were to run as independent. So imagine how much more of a pain he’ll be for both sides.

Why ANYONE would want to see the stock market crash and inflict so much pain on the country and so many Americans is SO beyond me and boggles the mind of rational thinking people.

And .... there are SO many reasons why the Democrats didn't get behind saving McCarthy's ass. If you listened to McCarthy’s press conference, you would have heard him blame the Democrats for everything. The Hindenburg fire. Losing the Alamo. The fall of Rome.

And .... What incentive do the Democrats have to save the Republicans from the Republicans?
  1. McCarthy refused to ask the Democrats for help, instead called them communists like a child and blamed the almost-shutdown on them.
  2. Helping McCarthy would make any further dysfunction on the House partially the responsibility/fault of the Democrats for helping him stay in power.
  3. They were given no incentive to vote for McCarthy.
  4. McCarthy is a liar and a totally ineffective leader who has done nothing but try to appease the worst of the Republican conference in a fruitless ploy to obtain and maintain his gavel. Who wants more of that?
  5. Voting for him would have been against the normal functioning of the Democratic Caucus, and they had zero reason to buck tradition to save his sorry ass.
McCarthy offered the Dems literally nothing. For so many years now the Republican definition of bipartisanship has been “Shut the fuck up and do as you’re told”. Turns out it’s not that effective when actually put into practice. That shitheel Trump also ordered the House to let the government shut down. And while 91 Republicans listened, the majority did not. And then it was only 8 Republicans who agreed to kick McCarthy out. Trump is far ahead of the other presidential candidates, but he doesn’t seem to command the party anymore.

Shit .... Maybe Gaetz thinks House of Cards is a documentary and this is his first step to eventually replacing Trump as President in early 2026. Gaetz’ only strategy here is doing what’s best for Gaetz. And right now that means tapping into the MAGA donations base. If he can convince them he’s Trump’s white knight, they’ll give him millions. And maybe get him elected Governor (fuck no!) Gaetz’ problem is that Trump’s only strategy is doing what’s best for Trump. And Trump’s pretty fucking dumb. He may decide that those donations being sent to Gaetz are money that should belong to him.

I said Republicans kicked this off and the Democrats assisted. Feel free to go back and look.

So ... yeah. Not sure where you're going with that.
You know, I read thru all your bullshit responses, you keep trying to say the democrats assisted... hmm.. Do you watch football? (I know football analogy was used already, but I am going to put it in a different light)... Basically what you are trying to claim as an assist, is equivalent in saying that the Republican's deliberately threw an interception to the Democrats (the opposing team) and it's the democrats fault that they caught that deliberate interception, and ran it in for a touchdown causing the Republican's to lose the game.. or in this case, McCarthy losing his speakership... But you see, for your "assist" claim to be accurate, the outcome would have to be the opposite where the Democrats would have had to either not caught the interception (deliberately), or catch that interception, which was deliberately thrown to them by the Republican's, and run that football the opposite direction and score a touchdown for the Republican's, so the Republican's won the game.. or in this case McCarthy kept his speakership. (assist means to give support). The Opposing team (the Democrats) did exactly as all opposing teams do when they are thrown an interception, they scored for themselves. (they did not give support to the Republican's, or in this case McCarthy).

In short: Your Assist claim is pure bullshit! If you question that, I suggest you try blaming an interception on the team that caught it and ran with it, the next time you are hanging with your buddy's watching football... Let us know how that argument plays out for you.

No it’s much simpler than that, greed. If the market crashes that’s when people with disposable income should be buying stocks. He wants to make a quick buck and he doesn’t care who gets hurt.
Or he's already holding short positions. Either way, it's shitheaded. Shocker, I tell you!

It isn't always appreciated. If the other team does a killer play that might even dash our hopes, like, I have to congratulate that. Unless it's cheating or damn close to it.

Anyway. The Democrats didn't have to vote for McCarthy's outing but they did. Good.

Why they did, that's irrelevant to me. Only the final outcome is of any significance to me.

The football analogy was a good one. Generally I would tend to agree with you. However, by the slimmest of margins was McCarthy ejected. If it weren't for all the Democrats and a handful of Republicans it would have not been possible. I'm really not sure how that is getting lost on some people. Aren't people working together towards a common goal the very essence of assisting? Should I have said the Democrats and Republicans were assisting one another? Egh. I would have imagined people would understand what I was getting at should that be the case.

Thanks nonetheless. You didn't even insult me so I didn't have to bother returning the favor! How cordial. I liked your post and the effort, it's the best one.

You deserve an award. The part in bold is correct. I don't care about Democrats or Republicans, I have no allegiance. What have they done for me? They've done fuck all for me.

Regarding the part about who gets hurt, well, can't save everyone. Nor is life fair. I wish everyone could be saved and everything was fair, but that isn't realistically possible. The world is a cruel, cold, harsh place as a baseline. Full of wonder and splendor for those willing to take risks and have a bit of faith in their abilitiy. Need to be pragmatic and do what you can. I'll end here before it looks like Moonie jumped behind my keyboard.

So, lets me get this straight, (more football).. the Republican's initiated the play, deliberately threw an interception to the Democrats. The democrats successfully ran the ball into the endzone, after catching that deliberate interception, because the very Republican's that innated the play. Those same Republican's, chose to let the democrats by and not block them, in fact, those republican's blocked their own team members from stopping the democrats, letting them win the game. Yet, you are still determined to blame the democrats, believing they where supposed to throw the game. What would the outcome be if those Republican's, first didn't innate the play, didn't purposely throw the interception, and/or the very least chose to block the democrats instead of their own team mates? The Republican's out number the Democrats.. they didn't need the democrats to keep McCarthy in.. BTW this was not a kill play, as a kill play, for example, is spiking the ball into the ground, not throwing an interception. No play is made on a kill play, and no scoring can happen.

I find it funny that you claim the only significance is the outcome, and why it happened has no relevance. yet your whole argument, is all about why/how it happened, which relevance is a requirement for you to claim the Democrats "assisted". You claim it's because the Democrats "assisted" in making it happen, when in fact it was those 8 Republican's who went against their team, deliberately started the play, deliberately threw the interception, deliberately blocked their own team from stopping the democrats from running the ball into the endzone.. But.. but.. it's the democrats fault that they ran the ball into the endzone.. That makes no sense at all..

This is all the Republican's doing.. The democrats (the opposing team) did not assist in anything.. if you are dead set on using the assist claim, the Republican's assisted the Democrats.. not the other way around.

I can't see any viable replacement that isn't going to be more pragmatic and reasonable with dems than McCarthy has been. The Gaetz group won't support anyone who's less of a douchebag than McCarthy, because they thought he wasn't even enough of one. But the establishment isn't going along with Gaetz or one of those dickheads, just look at what they've been saying about them publicly. This means there can be no feasible replacement without dem votes, which gives the dems power here. I think Gaetz shot himself in the ass here when he got rid of McCarthy. He was already groveling all over them and gave them disproportionate power but that could end now.

Alright. From what I can tell, there's two things I've said that are flying like a lead balloon for you. 1) Assist, 2) Democrat.

I said assist, because, the very first sequence of actions begun with the Republicans and the Democrats were involved to a lesser degree, therefore, assisted. They're not to get all of the fame and glory but they were present and involved. I have straight up said from the beginning that Republicans started this shit -- but people go out of their way to get hung up on the finer details. lol. Because, I guess, knowing this place, they're big fans of the Democrats. There's like, 20+ (30+ ?) Democrats for every 1 Republican here. I'm not surprised. This place is far removed from an accurate representation of the USA. People in other countries probably think it's total anarchy here 24/7/365 if this is their primary source of political information and discussion of the USA. We're basically an old school version of r/politics on Reddit, crazies and all.

I see what you're saying in regard to the football analogy. Fine, we'll do it your way if that suits you better as it's interchangeable. The Republicans assisted the Democrats. Now you're good, or I hope. Hopefully everybody is finally good now if that's actually what the big deal was. I don't care about Democrats or Republicans, I care about what can be done for me. If the market crashes I can invest more for cheaper and all of you can, too. Unless you're retiring in the next 5 years you all stand to win. If someone is adversely affected to a seriously detrimental degree, well, should have attached a frying pan to their ass a little tighter. Watch out for your friends and family.

I'm guessing he's one of the people who have been waiting on the "imminent" crash since 2009. Been sitting in mostly cash while missing out on all the "huge" gains he could have had if he had just been investing like normal all along. I'm sure if the market does crash again, this time he'll get it right and be a billionaire. That's also why he needs to put some of the blame on Democrats. He needs enough Republicans to maintain power to protect his future tax cuts.

Sitting on cash isn't applying leverage and sits there and erodes through inflation, I do hope you knew that.

Haha, this. The only people who think a market crash is going to make them rich are poors and morons. The rest of us have been investing all along and it either sucks if we’re old or is inconsequential if we’re young.

Indeed. if you're sitting on cash you're an idiot. If you stop investing through a market crash that too makes you an idiot.
