Listening to their demands, I don't think much would change in actual practice. They want a few symbolic votes on legislation that will go nowhere, demands for certain chairmanships and changing faces, other than that....

Maybe the demand to more easily add amendments that cut budgets, but again, will mostly result in more poison pills and deadlock imo.

Overall, just seems like a recipe for greater dysfunction, but gop had already been nearly maximally dysfunctional and unable to pass meaningful legislation, so what would be different?

I guess more drama, maybe even default on debt ceiling?

All of which I would say are good for Dems in 2024, bad for country in near term, but better off in longer term if the terrorists never get true power

It is the Clerk of the House, but The Clerk is not really non-partisan. That position, along with a few others, are voted in by the majority party. The current Clerk of the House is The Honorable Cheryl L. Johnson who is a Democrat and was voted in in 2019 by the Democrats.
The next order of business of the House after they elect a Speaker would be to elect a new Clerk.

Doesn't the Speaker largely control the business of the House of Reps? If the Freedumb Caucus has direct or indirect control of the House, it would be an epic shit show. And not the kind like now where we can sit back, relax, and chuckle at the gridlock. IIRC the holdouts have already told McCarthy one of their conditions is impeachment of numerous Biden administration figures.

There's a large difference between gridlock where a few must-pass bills (budget and debt ceiling) squeeze through, vs. chaos because one party has long since forgotten how to govern its own members, much less a large country.
