House narrowly defeats bill to curb NSA spying

In what is described as a hard fought victory for President Obama, the NSA will be allowed to continue "intelligence gathering" on US citizens in the name of safety.

To quote the article:

"Opposing them were not only House Speaker John A. Boehner and President Obama, but the leaders of the nation’s defense and intelligence establishment.."

Too many jobs are on the line here.

Well fuck. Hopefully the Senate will have better luck, and this whole debate will be renewed when the Patriot Act sunsets.

At least it isn't over, and those vote numbers means the situation is far from hopeless.

GD it. Fuck them.

Shit! I mean sorry mr NSA guy reading this what I truly meant was I'm glad they talked about it and came upon what I am sure is a reasonable answer and I love nothing more than the process at work in Washington. Good days 🙂

Yes = "Yes, pass the bill".
No = "No, don't pass the bill."

So in this case Yes = kill NSA surveillance, no = keep it alive. My Congressman voted no. I doubt it'll make a difference, but I'll be writing letters over this.

Mine actually voted correctly, for once.

I was getting all excited about writing an angry letter too :|

My piece of shit Ruler votes the exact opposite on every single bill that comes up so I was not surprised to see that he voted no on this.

I fucking HATE the Virginia Republican Party. George Allen is a piece of shit, Kucinelli is a piece of shit, McDonnell is a piece of shit, and Bill Bolling is a piece of shit.

Rob Whitman is a traitor against America, as is Eric Cantor and my District Ruler Rigell.

Interesting how the far right and far left aligned to support the bill here, while the mainstream and moderates of both parties aligned to oppose it. Ordinarily I agree with the moderates, but not this time.

I tend to agree that we'll see better privacy protection in our laws coming down the pike. At the very least, portions of the Patriot Act will eventually expire. It's too bad it didn't happen this time, but the vote was pretty close.

Its funny.

I was reading comments on SFGate about "free" WiFi from Google coming to SF and reading comments regarding this. The progressives were very much in favor of 'free' WiFi from Google and very much opposed to programs to PRISM.

The progressive was unable to make the connection. Quite laughable.

Are we nutz? Of corse they will vote to keep nsa spying.
They ARE big government, these congress members.
Starting to get the point?
Just because some numnuts congress person, part of and paid by the US government, proclaims to be anti big government is the biggest BS fed to the voting public.
These guys are not anti big government.
Republicans are not anti big government.
Tea party members of congress are not anti big government.
Get a clue...
If congress believed this crap they feed the people about anti big government, they would never be there in the first place.
And naturally, allowing and enforcing nsa spying would be right up there as priority #1.
I'm not surprised at all.
What surprises me is that people believe this anti big government BS fed to them by someone working for and paid by that scary big government.
It's like abortion. Hard line pro lifers will be the very first to run straight to an abortion clinic if their little sweet 15 year old daughter became PG.
Most people are really too dumb to vote.
They deserve to be fooled.

I'm glad to say that my first term congressman voted to stop the NSA from illegally gathering information on citizens without warrants.

So you are in favor of bigger government, gotcha. lol

Anyways, while I agree that you can lay valid criticism on those who pretend to be against big government the idea itself, i.e. being against a bloated, intrusive and big government is not bullshit itself because if anything has been proven it is that more government is not the solution to any of our problems no matter how much money you are demanding be taken from other people and to be thrown/burned to address issues government has proven to be most inefficient and incompetent in addressing.
