I was just reading and posting at Ars Technica when something moved in the shade on the wall, a couple of feet from me about head height. The sudden moves caught my lateral field of view and I recognized a house centipede. Used a tissue to make the little critter fall into an ice cream plastic jar. Try as it did, it could not climb more than an inch or so without falling back so I went to get a penny and, knowing how some of you like pics of multilegged critters, took some pics. :camera:

Since I don't have a macro lens, it took four tries before the autofocus on my camera did its job properly but only one pic is worth posting. I then went to release the little ah heck down the hallway since there is not much for it to eat in my apartment.

Anyway, here's the pic of the little guy. Only one caudal appendage (the antennalike thingie sticking out near its bum) shows up because it simply dropped the other and I could not take a pic of the released/broken bit unfortunately. Don't think that harmed it very much.:)

That's a baby house centipede. If you have one of those, it means the bigger ones have gotten pretty big and hiding somewhere in your house =). The adult ones are bigger then a hand. Luckily they crunch up very easily.

Firebot, house centipedes reproduce rather slowly and tend to shun the light and avoid people (don't worry about them crawling over your face while you sleep) but they will help keep your house roaches and other pests under control. It's true though that their many long legs creep out some people. Would be fun to see how those folks react to marine giant isopods.

Frak, now i'm going to dream about this tonight..

oh and those house centipedes, we have them at work...

If any of those were in my house i'd move out/buy a shotgun. Centipides/worms and millipedes are a phobia of mine.
