Nothing wrong with this store not accepting credit card on a high dollar item since they deal with mostly groceries.
Look at it this way: I guess they have to pay 1.5% of the sale to the credit card company to accept a credit card.
So on a $100 grocery order, it's only $1.50 but when you're dealing with $1000 item, it's $15
Now, all the other places that accept cards have that figured into the price but since Aldi's probably doesn't sell many $1000 items, it makes sense for them to only accept cash on a high priced item such as this.
But then again, it also makes sense to just add $15 to the price tag......
Maybe this is to reduce fraud?

These giant wholesale grocery stores barely scrape out 3-5 cents on every $1 sold. Losing 1.5 to 3 cents to credit card companies could almost put them out of business.

Worms: You just dont get it this is a large grocery chain world wide. They sell items cheaper then walmart does! Now to do this you have to cut all costs associated with the store such as baggers and accepting credit cards because it just costs too much money. If it saves me money then why the hell not? They even take Debit cards. Given where many of the stores are located I cant blame them for this policy. This is a major chain so dont be banging on it calling it a fishy grocery store.

it save $$$ and pass the saving to customer = good

I have been to Aldi once for curiousity. Their price is MUCH cheaper than K-mart and Walmart.

- U pay for bags and can only use debit card or cash thought, anyway bags are NOT so environmental friendly
- U bag your own stuff, no baggers or pull the trolley to your own car to unload it
- they sell a lot of OEM / rebadges food, much cheaper..

thumbs up for Aldi

We have an Aldi store around here as well. Just was built a few years ago. They always have good cheap stuff in there. You bag your own stuff (gotta pay for the bags) or simply use the boxxes lying around. Carts are bought as well. Actually you put in a quarter and then get to unhook the cart, when your done you simply bring the cart back up to the store, hook it back up to the others and take your quarter back out. Good way to keep carts out of the parking lot and rolling into cars. Don't dump on this store, they are not a scam.

oops sorry

Aldi is ok. The owners are the second richest right after Bill Gates. They have their own brands ( which are made by most major companies). But you have to adjust. You get no service. You need to bag yourself, no cc. Then you get a rock bottom price.

Hey...
I never saw a Fry's in my life. I purchased a few I-Cybies from Aldis for cash. Frys, Aldis, and Iowa do not exist. Only....I-Cybies.

Hey, I'm all for no-frills surplus stores - It just doesn't seem wise to drop $1500 for some generic no-warranty laptop at a some fishy no-recourse store when you could get the worlds best brand laptop from the worlds best vendor for about the same price. Besides, it'd be a real hassle to have to bag it yourself.

worms are you not comprehending what is being said to you? this is not a fishy store period. Now as far as maybe spending a bit more and getting a dell, thats probably what I would do. But the store is legit, legit, legit. stop calling it fishy.

I dunno. Most grocery stores smell fishy. Especially in the seafood dept. :D:p

I've got an Aldi's in my town but I've only been there a few times. They sell mostly off-brand groceries. They don't give you grocery bags and you bag your own food. I guess that helps keep costs down. I can't imagine them selling laptops, but then again I don't go there that often.

To be honest, it seems like there are a lot of vagrants and welfare abusers that shop there. I usually shop at Kroger. lol

Do you mean to tell me that a little mom and pop type supermarket chain is selling a laptop made out of Titanium for $1,500 US? I find that hard to believe.

I bought one. Works fine so far. Battery life is 2.5 hours. LCD is crisp and clear but ofcourse picture clarity varies from viewing angle due to the nature of the lcd. The only problem I have is that Norton Ghost cannot backup to a CDR although the CDR works under WinXP for recording with Nero. I think a similarly configured notebook would be worth 2000 dollars plus anywhere else. This is my first notebook so I cannot compare with previous experiences. The unit does get hot on the right side. Its not burning hot. More like between warm and hot. You can put it on your lap although the manual recommends not to do this for a long time. Aldi's has a demo unit, at least the Aldi's around here.
