uhm aldi is a real store, not a no name upstart... i think this was discussed before... it uses a desktop P4, not mobile, plus you have no idea what brand it is..

EDIT: Okay, its Medion. It sounds pretty decent if you want a complete desktop replacement, but I have no idea how heavy it is and *actual* battery life. They do not use CC to save the extra 1-1.5% surcharge, thus passing some of the savings to you.

Aldi is one of the biggest grocery store chains in Europe.

Nothing fishy about this deal. :)

This looks exactly like new the Dell Smartstep 250N notebooks that Dell released (these use the desktop P4's too). I was guessing that Dell was slapping their name on these since they are not configurable like most Dell laptops. The specs look the same.. check it out here Link

Aldi is a discount wholeseller like a Sams or such. The reason they only take cash or credit is so that they dont have to pay the Credit Card fees and then they can keep the prices down. I have a CD store back home that charges $2 less a CD if you pay with cash.

umm for the last time, this isn't fishy, aldi's a frigging supermarket. That's like saying Walmart is fishy because they're not accepting Credit Cards on something they're probably selling at cost to clear out so they don't lose that last 3%

I don't think it's fishy. You couldn't buy this online. It's in store only like Gobadgrs said.

Glad to see my first post on the forums here is such a success.....

Now that we've established that it's not fishy, how about someone picking me up one. :)
I'll be your bestest friend! :D

I think I saw an Aldi store somewhere in LA.
I think they only have stores in west coast.

We have Aldi food stores all around Northeast Ohio, they are a major chain, I didn't know they sold computers!

Might have to check it out.

They started doing that in Europe. One kind of PC, massively purchased (brings down cost) and then sold for a low price.
It's a good idea...

I like it, but I'd prefer it for $900 with less options (do not need a desktop replacement)

probably not the same as the Dell. The Dell Smartstep 250N uses Intel 845 chipset, which is a desktop chipset supporting SDRAM. that is in line with their saying the machines use SDRAM (256M), while the Medions are said to be using DDR RAM (and 512M)!
