**HOTter: LOGITECH z-540's FOR $19 AFTER PM, MIR**

Page 3 - Seeking answers? Join the AnandTech community: where nearly half-a-million members share solutions and discuss the latest tech.
FYI - I bought 2 sets (One for me and one for a gift) and after reading the "problems" encountered; I tested both sets. The results...Absolutely NOTHING wrong. They are fully functional and otherwise operational.

I don't profess to be an audiofile, but they sound pretty darn good to me, especially for $14 a set.
I will use these for games/MP3's only, not for home theater.

For people who have problems with the rear speakers, there are a few things to check. For example, I have 5.1 sound built in on my ASUS motherboard. I didn't have sound coming out of my real speakers at first. But here are the things I did for this 4.1 speaker set:

  • Go to the application that is installed with the sounc card driver, from there, set the speaker out to 4.1. Exact steps depends on your specific sound card. Consult your sound card's manual. Make sure you have the speaker plugs pluged into your sound card output correctly.
  • Go to Control Panel, double click "Sounds and Audio Devices" , click the Advance button, and set your speaker setup to "Quadraphonic speakers".
  • Then download the surround wav or wma test files from here on Microsoft's web site. Install it, and play the wav or wma file.
  • If you can hear sound from all speakers when you play the surround sound file in Windows Media Player 9, you are all set. If not, make sure all settings mentioned above are done correctly
  • Some of you might have used PowerDVD to test surround sound. And, like myself, you might have the 2-channel stereo version instead of the 5.1 version. You can find out which version you have by following the instruction on this page. You will have to pay more to upgrade to the 5.1 version.

Hope this help.

Don't forget that the rebate is not a gurantee, if your receipt shows pricematch and coupon adding, you have a significant chance of not getting your rebate.

bullsh!t.
nowhere on the rebate form is any stipulation that mentions what you just posted. please don't waste space/time/electricity. thank you.

Honestly, are you 100% sure you will get that rebate with a receipt showing pricematch or coupons in it. Rebates are sooo f@cked up that I haven't gotten my BFG asylum rebate from Best Buy yet even tho i bought it on the day of the sale and sent in the rebate in time. I have sent rebates with outrageously ridiculous prices on my receipts and got the rebate money back, but i must say that i just got lucky. Also, it's extremely YMMV to get all of the 3 to pass through - a pricematch, a coupon, and then a rebate.

Starting February 16th @ officeMax these go on sale for 39.99. Looks like a good Staples pricematch opportunity again.

Rebate is also still good. It should come out to about $20 with No Coupons....just the PM! Good Luck!

I just pricematched at Staples of Officemax for 41.49. They sent me a copy of the order and it just says the price is 41.49...nothing about a pricematch. I think that the rebate will go through. Here's hoping 🙂

officemax has these for $40 now

No they don't! I've checked everywhere, and nowhere does it come up as $40 . . . it's not even listed on the circular, and on the website, it's still $79.99. I'd LOVE to get these speakers for $19 too, but I don't see it happening . . . Am I missing something here?!

Our Officemax has them for $40 again this week. I bought a set yesterday and I must say.... I'm VERY disappointed. I no doubt got a bad set, as I couldn't turn the damn things down. The volume knob only turned them down a bit then at zero, it would get really loud. Also, what I read in most reviews about missing mid tones is definitely true. They do nice highs and nice lows, but the mid tones aren't great. Also, what dumbass design the knobs? You almost had to use pliers to turn them.

This is coming from a guy who is still using a set of 4 year old Altec Lansing ACS48. I never dreamed they would sound better than the z540s, but they do. Though they are still quite powerful (40w sub, 20w each satelites speaker) and VERY clear and distinct in tone.

Anyway, as I said, I had a defective pair, but I doubt it affected the clarity of sound.

well the ad here in hawaii has it for $40, no rebates. I just picked up two. Maybe you guys had it last week, or will have it next week.

Yeah I hope they go on sale again for $40 at OfficeMax or some other place on the rebate list, that way Staples will accept the PM without hassle.
