Modem? do they use residential DSL?

Sounds like a cheap hotel

It's a brand name hotel, not some fly by night outfit.

Being you didn't specify...i am thinking brand-name or not, it's a cheap hotel.

Well, if you clicked the link you'd see it's a Renaissance by Marriott.

Didn't see the small link, would have been easier for everyone to state where you were staying in the OP.

I always wondered. In a volatile area of the wold such as the middle east, if hotels publicly market their security offerings

ex "free wifi, blast doors at every exit, complimentary 1oz pepsi in mini bar" etc

You'd probably be suprised how normal life is there.

That's the general impression that I get from speaking with Isarelis...I'm just asking if that every happens in very critical zones...

I stayed at the Renaissance in Tel Aviv. I remember it was pay per day charge (something like $14) but I don't ever recall having to have them install a modem. It was already there when I got there. I think a lot of the full service Marriotts charge a per day charge for Internet access. The Marriott I stayed at in Waikiki charged, as well as the JW Marriott I stayed at in Vegas. The Courtyards and Residence Inn's I've stayed in was free...go figure...
