This is kind of like saying the CircuitCity legal team is incompetent. I think they know the definition of an advertisement and if it was their policy to only pricematch NEWSPAPER advertisements, I think they would have made that clear in their pricematch policy and not left this giant loophole in there. But, you could be right. I tried Irvine, Newport Beach, Santa Ana, Huntington Beach.

Does BB published their WD HD's shelf tag in the paper or over the air? </FORM>

Is a shelf tag in a store open to the public and with customer service available by phone considered an act of advertising? I'd say yes. Is it a public notice? I'd say yes. Not everyone goes in the store or calls the store you say? Not everyone gets a newspaper, either. Pull the stick out of your ass, SyahM and re-read the bolded part of my post.

Of course it's an ad. An ad doesn't have to come over the radio or in your local newspaper. They are advertising the price to their customers via the shelf tag. Retail stores use all kinds of advertising to attract shoppers, including radio/television, print and in-store ads.

Two flaws in your logic, SyahM:

1) You conveniently forgot the meaning of the word "especially" in your summary conclusion. "Especially" also implies "but not limited to."

2) Your conclusion rules out the Internet, since it is neither press nor broadcast. Doesn't a price posted on a company's Internet site constitute an advertised price? I think we all would agree that is does. And if so, that is the online equivalent of an in-store shelf tag.

This is getting really nit-picky, so lets go all out! Advertisements are intended to attract the attention of customers. If the said shelf tag was just like the typical BB shelf tag, then it's not an advertisement. Otherwise, all price tags would be ads! Now, if the price was emblazoned on a large eyecatching poster, then it would be a advertisement.

What does dictionary.com say?

What does dictionary.com say?

It doesn't matter what the dictionary says, because we're arguing about an industry term.

People here are erroneously equating an "advertised price" with a price in an "advertisement." "Advertised price" doesn't mean that a store has to actually be running advertisements on an item. Otherwise they would be asking "where is the print ad" or "on what radio station did you hear their commercial?" That's not what they care about. Do they call the local newspaper or radio station to verify? No. They call the local competitor, pretend they are a customer, and ask what the price is on whatever you're buying.

In retail lingo, an advertised price means an item's regular in-store price, as opposed to a price that is only available to persons outside the general public (employee discount prices, for example).

That's the only definition that matters, and a shelf tag obviously falls into that category.

Nice! I guess that made it an especially hot deal. Did you have to pay her to do that?

Okay, I went to CC and purchased the drive for full price and got my rebate forms.

I have printed out the bb shelf tag and have a copy of their PM policy with me. I plan to go back after work and get the PM (hopefully)....I'll post w/ results.

That's the smart way to do it. That way you get your rebate forms and the CSR at the customer counter doesn't even see the rebate's that you're getting, so it's basically a straight price match.

The only rub that you might run into at this point is if the Circuit City that you go to wised up to the deal and are no longer price matching or if they do call your local Best Buy to check stock. Not many Best Buy's have this drive in stock at this point.

I hope that no one has wised up to the deal. This is southern Alabama, after all....I wouldn't think that anyone else would even know what a hard drive is. (j/k ....I am an ignorant redneck too!)

I found a poop load of these in Topeka KS.
I got 2 of them - I asked for my rebate reciepts and they wouldnt give them to me - argued w/ the store manager for about 30mins and still didnt get the rebates - checked my reciepts and there is a comment on the bottom that says "no rebate allowed - pricematch to BB"

Im going to try to return these drives to another store in the KC area and get a clean receipt from them

I have the rebates off the website for now though

and for the note - the BB in Topeka had this drive for 179.99 w/ 0 rebates

Hmmm, I just checked my reciept, theres not even any mention of the PM on it. Under items it reads

Item Qty Model Description Tax Amount
1 SL 1 WDC1200JBRTL Peripherals Y 91.99

Does that look right?

I only ask because the other receipts that were posted mentioned the PM, didn't they?

Was that hand written or printed?

Pretty crappy thing to do to you. Oh well, it's at the bottom, right?

Scissors work wonders! :p

EDIT: My receipt does not mention a price match whatsoever...

When you copy the receipt for the rebates, the comment may accidentally get obscured.

It would be nice if CC had just a little bit of consistency.

PM to BB at $99?
PM to BB at $79?
PM not at all?
PM to BB & void rebates?

Lol. CC is on my dnb list, unless it as an absolute giveaway and I can buy it online. They were on my dnb list for a long time, as my experience is that they have the worst trained, least helpful employees, at least the ones I have dealt with.

Yeah, I know. They'll have a great deal & I'll probably run right over. Just tee'd off that I almost never seem to get any PM's at CC, but almost never have a problem at BB, Compusa, Staples, OfficeMax or Office Depot.

My opinion? Staples & OfficeMax rock!

Just got back from Circuit City at Century 3 Mall, and the manager wouldn't pm me. He gave me the line about not being able to price match because of the rebates, and I told him that the website said expressly that they don't pm rebates. In the end, he knocked 10 bucks off the price, so it's ~ 70 bucks after rebates. Not too shabby, but a big disappointment from what I went in there expecting :(

After complaining a bit I got a 70$ refund.
I purchased and printed my 3rebates before the 60$ got pulled. That said I should make 50$ sending in for my rebates.
I guess I wait and see.

No - it was printed on the rec. - like they took the time to manually type it in in the comments section

Just go to another CC and say you want to change the form of payment or something
