no, give the amount of money wanted on the card also. when purchasing the product, this amount will be deducted from the original price.
"So I guess $5 is the max you can put on it."
no, it can be $10, $20, $50, etc
"I just find it strange that they have these $5 off coupons laying around and you have to go to the cash register before you use it."
the coupon is to promote the use of the gamers card (imo).
type "gamers card" or variations thereof for more threads that can probably explain this better (than i am doing)

Ok, I guess the way I understand it is like this... you buy gift cards to give to other people... so you go there and take a card to the register... tell them how much you want on it... then pay for the card? So if I put $5 on the card I have to pay $5? So I was thinking, how do you save money using the card yourself if you lose $5 paying for the card. I did a search but nothing came up.
Geezus, your putting $5 on a giftcard. Use the thing to pay for the game as well as the included $5 off coupon. Amazing I even included Pictures and some people still don't get it

That's the variable I was missing to understand it... the $5 off coupon. It makes sense when you know that it's included. And, dude, I didn't see the picture. You can't always assume that everyone else knows everything about, say, a gift card as well as you do. I'd never seen one before and was unaware of the coupon on back.
It was on the first page of this thread when 3 other people asked about the $5 off. I've removed the Pic's since I guess it was a waste of my bandwidth.
I'm glad you figured it out though.

You almost understand it. The Gamers Gift card is a gift certificate card. You can put any amount of money on it, just like if you were buying any normal gift card. Put $30 on it and the next time you buy something, whip out the card -- they'll scan it at the register and the remaining balance will pop up. The precious $5 off coupon is included inside the packaging for the card.
So, buy a Gamers Gift card and put a couple bucks on it. Next, open up the package. Grab the card AND the paper coupon out of the packaging. When buying the video game, hand the cashier both the paper coupon (for $5 off the total price) and your gift card. However much money you put onto your gift card will be deducted from your total price. If you put $100 on the gift card then buy UT2004 for $30, it will ring up like this:
$30 (total)
-$5 (paper coupon)
for a grand total of $25.
Your gift card will have $25 deducted from the $100 on it, so you won't pay anything for the game (but you did pay $100 for the gamer gift card). Next time you use the card it will have a balance of $75.
If you only put $5 on the gift card, your reciept will be
$30 (total)
-$5 (paper coupon)
-$5 (total balance of your gift card -- the gift card will be thrown away at this point)
$20 total that you pay out of your pocket for the game. Since you just spent $5 on the gift card, you have spent a total of $25 instead of $30.
Capiche? Hope that helps.

I had gotten 2 gamer's cards on Monday, along with of course, the 2 $5 off coupons. On Tuesday, I went to buy both BF: Vietnam and UT2K4 SE. When I tried using the coupons, they wouldn't work nor would they accept them. The manager read the coupon and it said "...not valid with any other offer..." and stated that since they were on sale, that was the other offer, hence the coupon wasn't working. I didn't care enough to argue, but what I'm wondering is how you are all geting the coupons to go through? When they tried for me, the register wasn't taking them.

The black Gamer Gift Cards do not automactically take $5 off due to mis-use with the old green ones. The cashier simply has to enter the $5 discount after scanning the coupon. It's taking them but the cashier is not entering its value. This was a problem last year when they were first released but nearly every store knows to do this now. User error at your store.
I should have known. Friggin' jack@$$es.
