Just a question on this issue.
If I am already a member of Sprint and I need to get a new phone number, do I go through GetConnected or do I go through Sprint PCS?
Do I get a new number before I activate my phone or do I activate it after I get a new number.
Thanks.

I'm not sure you're going to get that $30 service credit.
http://www1.sprintpcs.com/explore/P..._PCode=None&CURRENT_USER<>ATR_cartState=group

That promotion is only if you buy from the SprintPCS website...I think getconnected is trying to pull a fast one...

Here's a better deal:
Sprint TP 5250 at Staples for $199
$40 off $200 in-store coupon - 40
$110 Staples Rebate - 110
Sprint New Activation Rebate - 70

I work for Sprint PCS and have just a few little thoughts. The first one, being the most important, is that the 5250 is a worthless phone. Looks neat. Sucks. Hardcore. As for the part of making $20, chances are you won't. Young America, who we use for the rebates, tracks all the discounts taken off of phones and on the back of the rebate form in the fine print it says the rebate can't exceed price paid for phone.

I have the 5250 and it is a good phone..I like it a lot. And there is a good chance of making $20...cuz of the recipt that you send in with the phone shows an amout paid that is greater than the rebate amount then you will still get it....I made $30 on my 5250:D

I fail to see how the 5250 is a worthless phone, or how it sucks hardcore. ...and of course, your comments don't seem to explain why either.

Chances are that I will. The $110 rebate is through Staples. The $70 rebate is through Sprint. There is no reason why could cry foul on that restriction....and most of the time, you can make money on rebates anyway -- it's been done many times on AT.

I'll tell you why the 5250 sucks. My co-workers who just bought one also feels the same way. The key pad is hard and not nice to push. If anyone has used a Nextel phone, it has a similiar feel to it. If you do a lot of surfing or just key pushing, you will hate the 5250. Also, the screen on the A400 is a lot nicer. It's bigger and graphics is better. As you dial on the A400, the numbers are enlarged and it's very easy on the eyes. I also like the flateness of the A400 - very stylish. At first I was attracted to the front LCD indicator on 5250 but that is really more a gimmick than anything else. To me, it's nice but I don't have to have it. The things that really count is usability of the phone. I had a Motorla I85s from nextel which I was attracted by the techno features (screen, java apps, etc). As I used it day by day, I started to hate the key pad (very hard) and the size of the phone. It's very big by today standard and couldn't stand the fact it was not a flip phone.

I also compared the A400 to Motorola V60. V60 is smaller but again the LCD is small which you can't fit much info on the screen. In addtion, it doesn't support wireless web. It does have a speaker phone which is nice. I couldn't stand the antenna protruding so far out on the V60. It feels like it doesn't go with the smallness of the phone.

After much consideration, I settled on the A400. When you compared them side to side then it's becomes obvious. I think first you have make sure it's usable (size, feel, etc) then look for the techno gimmicks.

my 2 cents

What this all amounts to is personal preference. Just because YOU don't like the way the buttons feel or you think the 5250 is too small, doesn't mean the phone is "worthless" or "sucks." In fact, you and your friend are a small minority if you would rather have a larger phone without external callerID on a flip-phone.

In fact, you basically say that the Sprint "sucks" in comparison to the A400 because:
a) You don't like the way the buttons feel. Well, I got news for you, buddy, plenty of people don't have a problem with the buttons. People buy cellphones to TALK on them, not play tic-tac-toe.
b) You think the flatness of the A400 is "stylish." Perhaps it didn't occur to you that some people would NOT appreciate the bulkiness of the A400 in comparison to the TP5250? I personally would rather NOT having a larger phone.
c) The screen is bigger on the A400. Yeah, no $h_t. It's a bigger phone. The screen on my laptop computer is bigger too. ...and when you dial on the 5250, the letters are plenty-big...unless you are wear glasses like Marcy from Peanuts.
d) Any feature that the 5250 has that the A400 does not have is a "gimmick." That's right. Perhaps it also didn't occur to you that the biggest complaint of flip-phone users from previously was not being able to see who was calling without flipping open the phone and looking inside...the problem was you couldn't use "open to answer" without losing your ability to see who was calling first (defeating the point of callerID). This is a HUGE benefit. Most people use and appreciate this feature!! And for many, this is the reason why they don't buy an A400!

So you see, your opinions that the 5250 "sucks" and is "worthless" are largely unfounded, and are based on YOUR own personal needs which hardly reflect the needs of the general public.

my friend had a 5250 and hated it, got a V60 instead. So far, V60 is the worst phone he's ever owned, and he used to work for Verizon Cell phone, and also has a sprint account. i'd avoid both if you can, they both suck

Hey Valsalva,

I can see you enjoy being a moron in the forums here. So many words, so little content. BTW, if you don't know anything about cell phones don't open your mouth like this.

Let me correct you on your "list":

a) Sprint is freaking service and A400 is a phone. I never said Sprint "sucked" - stop yakking and read carefully. I actually signed up with Sprint with the A400 phone. Get it? Service and Phone? Sprint=Service and A400=Phone. I guess when you make a call you never have to push the freaking buttons.
b) Yes, flatness is "stylish" and yes, it's my opinion. People like you just don't undertand what "My 2 cents" means and that's unfortunate. I guess I can't blame you for that. There is a special group out there.
c)Bigger phone doesn't always have a bigger screen. Your laptop comparison was pretty lame. Nice try, though. When you know how cell phones look you are welcome to come back and "contribute".
d) Damn, do I have to repeat what "My 2 cents mean" again?

I see you put a lot of work on thread crapping. Only if you can contribute as well you crap then this forum will be better place to be.

I have a 5250 and other than for the dust getting under the front LCD, I think it's a very nice phone.

What I am most concerned with is signal strength. My current phone regularly drops calls from my house (and elsewhere). I borrowed a friend's A400 to take home and signal strength was better (2 out of 3 bars). I was able to make calls more reliably. Can anyone who owns A400 or 5250 comment on their signal strength?

I must have learned it from watching you.

You obviously don't know jack about phones for yout o make a post like yours! I wouldn't have responded if you knew what you were talking about.

This is where you're wrong. Sprint is the "Brand" attached to the LG-manufactured Touchpoint 5250 -- if you look under sites like sell accessories or list phones by radiation, they USUALLY refer to this phone as Sprint "Brand." Therefore, it is perfectly acceptable to refer to the phone, by short, as the "Sprint," because it unambiguously differentiates the two products of comparison (vs. the "Sanyo.") This is very basic English grammar. Perhaps if you spent more time studying during high school and less time talking on your cell phone, you would have been able to figure that one out on your own.

For this, I apologize. For some reason, I thought you were PLIK, who posted this: I work for Sprint PCS and have just a few little thoughts. The first one, being the most important, is that the 5250 is a worthless phone. Looks neat. Sucks. Hardcore. As for the part of making $20, chances are you won't. Thus, my remarks were based on your post being a followup to PLIK's post.

Calm down gentleman...

Let's first thanks to munkey1 for this great deal.

And stop trashing each other's "personal preference" in phone selection.

flat style? Keypad size? bulky? screen size? oh well, Sprint is getting rid of these phone because they are NOT 3G DATA ready.
(expect all new line of phone coming around July..............LG VX1, Samsung A460, and bunch of "video-phone" or PDA phone)

So, if you are going to be new subscriber, wait till July 3G launch from Sprint. (recent news show that they delay till Aug)
Or you can like me, start selling your "current high end" Sprint phone and get a really cheap one for these 2 months. ;)

I won't say the 5250 sucks hardcore. Especially, since it does support 3G networks already. With that out of the way, I have the A400 and i get 4 bars in my house and my sister 5250 only gets 2 bars. Based on signal strength, I would say I like my A400 better than my sisters 5250.

YES and NO! It does support 3G voice but it does NOT support 3G Data (which is the whole purpose of new wireless communication, that able to browse, sent email, video phone w/ each other via high speed)

Lets see...I have the 5250. I like the hard buttons...they are very tactile. They aren't hard to push unless you have realy big meaty fingers. If you get a small phone you are gonna get a small screen, it's a tradeoff that is personal preference. I like how the 5250 is narrow and thicker rather than wide and flat; it fit's in my pocket next to my Palm V rather nicely. The external caller ID is good because I can glance at it to see if I have service, to see my battery life, and to see how many missed calls I have. I don't have to open the phone to turn off the ringer if I leave it on by accident in a theatre...all I gotta do is push the side volume button and the ringer is muted. It's not a gimmick if it's useful. All your gripes about the 5250 are personal preference and you have no right to say the phone 'sucks' or to insult other people for that matter.

Ozy

BTW: I got my 5250 for $120 - 180 rebates from Staples, without a contract....I am surprised there wasn't a thread about it here. Deal is dead though...ended May 31.

Ozy,

I've never said it's NOT a personal preference. I brought out all my grips 'cause PLIK said it sucked and I agreed but he didn't explain in details. Everyone has an opinion just like yours and Valsalva's. That's the experience I had with the A400 and 5250. This is what the forum is all about - share personal experience on the products we use. You feel the tactile feel is good but I think not - which is perfectly fine as long we share this appropriately. Why do you think I insulted people here? My original comments were purely a personal preference.

Let's get back on the product and not each other's throat. It's a waste of bandwidth.

Ok... didn't mean to create such heat on this topic. Where to begin....

LG and TP (Touchpoint) are the same brand. The techs call the TPs toilet-paper, and reason enough so. On the 5250, and it is not necessarily just an "opinion," the speaker quality is horrible. It sounds like a speaker-phone.

Those nifty little lights that light up on the face (near caller id) when someone calls, have a tendancy to go out within a few weeks.

The keys are hard to press, that has been a big complaint among people.

The a400 is a better phone. I've not seen or heard of a single problem with the phone. I flat out refuse to sell the 5250 to people. If you're looking for a *good* sprint phone, go with the A400, A460, 4700, or 5150.

Oh, and FYI, one phone getting 3 or 4 bars and another getting 2 doesn't mean anything. The strength of reception of one digital handset is going to be within 99.9% of another.

PLIK, becareful I don't want you to get flamed like me. "People" think you're insulting them when you bring out the "issues". :D
