LG and TP (Touchpoint) are the same brand. The techs call the TPs toilet-paper, and reason enough so. On the 5250, and it is not necessarily just an "opinion," the speaker quality is horrible. It sounds like a speaker-phone.

Those nifty little lights that light up on the face (near caller id) when someone calls, have a tendancy to go out within a few weeks.

The keys are hard to press, that has been a big complaint among people.

The a400 is a better phone. I've not seen or heard of a single problem with the phone. I flat out refuse to sell the 5250 to people. If you're looking for a *good* sprint phone, go with the A400, A460, 4700, or 5150.

Oh, and FYI, one phone getting 3 or 4 bars and another getting 2 doesn't mean anything. The strength of reception of one digital handset is going to be within 99.9% of another.

Denso also made Touchpoints. They have not been entirely LG. The speaker problem was big with the 5200, but I have yet to experience it on a 5250. The speaker sounds fine on mine. I have had both. My keys aren't hard to press at all, but that may be personal preference.

You are correct that the bars don't mean much. It's useable signal that counts.

This is certainly more informative than your last post that called the 5250 "worthless" and left it at that. Your observations may or may not be consistent with reality -- it's difficult to say. Comparing reliability of a product based on product returns is a TERRIBLE way of assessing failure rate -- because you fail to factor in how many units are out on the market. For instance, if 1,000 5250's are out in the area, but only 100 A400's, and they both have the same failure rate, the tech-guy will complain that he sees 10 times as many 5250's coming back to him as A400's. Also, you have no way of knowing whether it's the product that failed or the user who abused it. For instance, the 5250 is smaller -- people might drop them easier...or they might fit in pockets easier and people tend to sit on them more... Thus, there's no way to really judge product reliability based on that observation. I also get a little weary when a salesperson says "these products come back all the time, but these over here...i've never seen returned." All products get returned at some frequency...whether or not your tech-guy wants to tell you or not. I personally have listened to the TP5250 and I think the audio quality is fine, in fact, better than the Startac I was using before...however, I will not be arrogant enough to say that the speaker is better quality, because it could easily be the reception I was getting at the time. I don't have to be a technician to know that signal quality varies with location and from minute-to-minute. Compared to a lot of phones out there, the 5250 is small, compact, and full-featured for the price. The A400 is excellent too. I think saying that it "sucks" and is "worthless" is absolutely unjustified, especially since your ONLY criterion was your "supposed" information on reliability, which I demonstrated to be unreliable and almost useless...okay, and your opinion was that the speaker was inferior, but again, line conditions vary. Why don't you address characteristics that other people might be interested in? Say, size. Size is important to people. What about callerID in the front? I bet that's the #1 complaint about the A400. If your customer says, "I want a small flip-phone with a external callerID" are you still going to impose your beliefs on him/her and force an A400 down the customer's throat?

Very good point about the pure statistics of it all. However, when I see people bringing back in a particular model of phone, quite often, it does raise a few flags. Then when a customer comes in and asks about that phone, I cannot say to them "yeah! it's a fantastic phone." I'm an honest salesperson. I'll tell you if the phone you're looking at has any problems, and they all have their little quirks. People come in for my recommendation, my advice, my consultation on their equipment. I have to base it on what I've seen in the store.
