HOT? Sony car subwoofers at Circuit City

Member
Circuit City is advertising:
2 Sony 450W 10" subwoofers for $79.99 and
2 Sony 450W 12" subwoofers for $99.99.

I have never heard anything about Sony subs, but this seems like a pretty hot deal...

I looked in their site and I looked at there weekly specials I did not see this where should I be looking?

ege,

It's not a bad deal but for $20 more, you can go with the CV HED series subs @ Best Buy. Better output and construction IMHO.

Ya'll need to quit buying that junk from BB! Forget the Sony and go for an Alpine S series 10" or 12"! MUCH better sub but it's a little more expensive. If you can find the R series Alpine they're better but they're about double the price. I have two R series 10" Alpine subs, Alpine deck, and an Alpine amp and it FREAKIN' ROCKS. If you are going to get a nice car stereo, do it right. 😉

love cv subs but hed ae crap, not a hot deal at all these subs are crap so are the alpines, save you money shop around at car audio shops" you wont find anything but cheap stuff at _____ fill in the blank retail

my friend got these about 6 months ago when my BB just opened... best buy had them for 99.99 a piece (12"ers), we pmed to Circuit City, and got both of them for 80 bucks total, and it turned out the CC ad was a typo. Great deal

Its a great deal for someone on a budget system. They are OK subs that bump, but they tend to have a little bit of a plastic sound. Still, a good deal for that price 🙂.

umm ya thanks orion

i think you'll have to buy a box for these right? if thats the case, your better off going to any local stereo shop....where youll be able to get kicker subs in a custom box for a less than 200 im guessing...i also dont like sony car audio products....alpine products in general rock...thanks for the post btw.

custom box = $$$......even a regular box to hold those woudl cost you atleast $30 bucks....probably more. imma have to go wtih the crowd on this one.....i am not a big fan of sony's car audio products. but thanks for the post anyway. oh yeah, alpine = good stuff but i don't care too much for their speakers....

You Crazy Kids And Your Subs!!

You Drive Me F'n INSANE!!!

Can You Say Anoying?

What happened to real music, and since when is a rattling trunk music?

[Dr.Evil voice]riiiiiiight.[/Dr.Evil voice] You just lost all your credibility. Some people may prefer other speakers to Alpines, but to say they are "crap" is just stupid. Just sounds like a hater to me. 😉

My hatch (sorry, don't have a trunk) doesn't rattle. I've got a custom box that fits right in the back and flatens everything out instead of having a big ass hole in the back (designed for MINIMAL storage) that I can't use anyway. Anyway, NIN's "Star F%$ker" sounds GREAT in my car. The subs JUST take care of the lows while my other Alpine speakers take care of the mids and highs. GREAT balance and volume. 😉

if you're comparing alpine to the other brands sold at retail stores (i.e. pioneer, sony, jensen, etc.), then yes, alpine is badass. but, most audiophiles (myself included) think of all car stereo equipment sold at bb or cc as "crap." It's all relative... to someone who's used to a P2-300 with a 4meg video card, a Geforce2 mx will seem badass... to everyone else, its considered crap. The true high end gear can only be found at custom car stereo shops, not at bb and cc. my very first system was 2 - 12" JLAudio W1's, very efficient, about $115 a piece at the time, and could out hit ANY sub sold at best buy, not to mention the clarity was incredible when installed in a sealed box. My current system is an Eclipse 7301 receiver, phoenix gold zx450 amp (for mids and highs), phoenix gold zx600 amp(for subs), 3 - 10" JLAudio W6's, MB Quartz competition components in the front and rear, audio control crossover, with monster cable all around. I guarantee this will eat your alpine system alive 😛 (well, maybe not due to the fact that mine are in the annoying "rattling trunk" while yours is in a hatch) - not a single one of these components can be found at any retail store.

another point to make, is that having the best subs with subpar headunit and wires is useless. My headunit has NO built in power, it requires an external amp. It has 2 - 7v RCA preouts which deliver a very strong signal with almost no noise to my amp. This makes the speakers and amp more efficient as they amplify less noise and more music. Also, I can testify that going from generic RCA cables to Monster Cable (or similar high end cables like phoenix gold, etc.), makes a HUGE difference. The cheapies were giving me alternator noise and was distorting on the low end... Monster Cable took care of that for me

OT - big trouble in little china was one of the greatest movies ever made IMHO 😛

If you're only choices were HED's or the Sony's, which would you choose?

S series is buy, one get one and priced in line with the "junk" around where I live... not overly loud IMHO...I will agree with the R series kicking major butt though!

it really depends on power going to them, and how clean that power is if only between to 2 i would say lower power cv higher sony maybe if you have a clean amp ie low thd maybe cv heres my car 🙂 [link]http://www.sounddomain.com/id/orion1998_1[/link]

I figured it was time for this thread to have a response that wasn't just bit**ing and whining.

I have two of these sony 12" subs with a Q logic sealed box and a sony amp. Works great and didn't send me to the poor house.

The answer to your question...buy the Sony's and get a service plan on one of them (either one goes bad and you can get it replaced...they won't know the difference).

i will go ahead and agree with gigolo that JL audio subs are excellent. I have experience with three different ones, and all the audiophiles i know like these because they are so well made. They can take much more power than stated and are constructed study for hard hitting solid bass....but I also agree you must have good stuff going to the sub to make it sound good. So good luck.

I've had 2 10W6's in a sealed box in my car for 5 years now. They sound great, and IMHO, JL is the best sub manufacturer out there. I will be moving up to 1 13.5W7 and a MTX8100D on it when it comes out. Should out hit 6 of those sony's, yet sound better than they could hope to. I agree that 40$ a piece subs are just that, cheap.

I agree about JL's... I have 3 10w6's in my concorde and it sounds great. I don't know about alpine subs at all (havent heard) but I do like their head units and 4-channel amps (amps infinity kappa components and 6x9's great). Their head units have very good clarity because of the BBE on it, and have a good looking display too. I agree a higher end deck is better, but who in their right mind has a grand or so to pay for a top of the line deck (granted that eclipse touch screen one is pretty bad a$$). I think theres a limit to how much i will pay for a little bit better quality. It's true that you only get what you pay for, but sometimes you have to think about how important what you get truly is and compromise a bit.

Hmm... last i checked BASS is a part of music
rolleye.gif
. Most component/coaxial(sp) speakers don't have enough mid bass or low bass. Top of the lines might, but without those you definately need to get a sub to hear every tone of REAL MUSIC for your audio enjoyment.

PS: Shut your pie hole and stop crapping 😉
