Ill stick with the 12" sub that came with my BOSE 8 speaker setup in my Caddy STS thanks........

and the cool thing about it is, with the stereo loud as $hit and the trunk open, you can barely hear anything on the outside...weird. Now on the inside its mad loud.
Consider me an audiophile newbie, but I dont understand it.....maybe someone else does?

<< You Crazy Kids And Your Subs!!

You Drive Me F'n INSANE!!!

Can You Say Anoying?

P.S.
What happened to real music, and since when is a rattling trunk music?

I have to agree with you on this one. I'm only a college student, which would put me in the typical "trunk rattling" crowd, but I really can't stand that. People think they're cool when they crank the bass all the way up, and all you can hear is the frame of the car rattling from a mile a way. 99.9% of the time you have NO IDEA what song they're playing (they probably don't either, since they turn off, or drown out, almost all the treble). Basically most people do that to show off what a "great system" they have. Idiots. Yes, bass is a part of music, and yes, some songs require more than others. There's nothing wrong with having a nice pair of woofers, but it makes absolutely no sense to turn them up 100% to the point where you can here nothing else. That definitely ISN'T music.

trunk rattling eh?

Well, I stuck my JL's in the backseat area in my LS400 🙂 Ripped out the seat cushion and seat back and stuck the box there.

edit: ghetto? YEs it is.

Effective? Yes it is.

I refuse to spend anymore money into that car.

Well put, I get excited when my car alrm gets set off and I get woken up by a free massage. Maybe there is one or two people that use subs for base not "EFFECT", but the other 99.9% are frustrating and inconsiderate.

Do yourselves a favor. If you want a pair of good subs, get Bazooka and don't get fooled by the brand names like Sony. They are junks.

Now that the party is jumping
With the bass kicked in, the Vegas are pumpin'
Quick to the point, to the point no faking

yo VIP, lets kick it.....good to have another vanilla ice fan on AT....i think we need a vanilla ice avatar, if we were able to get rolling eyes, im sure we can get him....:Q

btw, do BB and CC even sell Alpine? I agree that for better car audio equipment you should be going to your local car stereo place for a better selection. I always thought alpine decks were top of the line and also their v12 amps are pretty good too. My personal choice for speakers is the kenwood excelons. im not into car audio so much but id like to know wat ppl think abt the excelon spkrs?

I work at circuit city and we carry alpine stuff, but not their top end subs and stuff although we can get it all cheap through accomodations, i dont understand why. I have installed sony subs many times and they are definitely cheap, along with sony radios, they have the highest defect rate straight out of the box (i,e cd wont play at all, radio tuner doesnt work, display screwed up) If you want good stuff, do stick with alpine head units. As far as subs go, my friend has the alpine type r's and they are pretty sweet, but pricey for regular consumers. I have JL subs and I love em. But if you wanna go down the cheap route, look for the MTX buy one get one sub deals at circuit city. We run that deal alot and they're definitely good subs for the money, especially if you run them with a mtx 1000D amplifier. Hope this helps some people, PM me if you want some more help.

Hey man, when I come down the street you'll know I'm playing N'SYNC loud and clear. 😀

if you're comparing alpine to the other brands sold at retail stores (i.e. pioneer, sony, jensen, etc.), then yes, alpine is badass. but, most audiophiles (myself included) think of all car stereo equipment sold at bb or cc as "crap." It's all relative... to someone who's used to a P2-300 with a 4meg video card, a Geforce2 mx will seem badass... to everyone else, its considered crap. The true high end gear can only be found at custom car stereo shops, not at bb and cc. my very first system was 2 - 12" JLAudio W1's, very efficient, about $115 a piece at the time, and could out hit ANY sub sold at best buy, not to mention the clarity was incredible when installed in a sealed box. My current system is an Eclipse 7301 receiver, phoenix gold zx450 amp (for mids and highs), phoenix gold zx600 amp(for subs), 3 - 10" JLAudio W6's, MB Quartz competition components in the front and rear, audio control crossover, with monster cable all around. I guarantee this will eat your alpine system alive (well, maybe not due to the fact that mine are in the annoying "rattling trunk" while yours is in a hatch) - not a single one of these components can be found at any retail store.

another point to make, is that having the best subs with subpar headunit and wires is useless. My headunit has NO built in power, it requires an external amp. It has 2 - 7v RCA preouts which deliver a very strong signal with almost no noise to my amp. This makes the speakers and amp more efficient as they amplify less noise and more music. Also, I can testify that going from generic RCA cables to Monster Cable (or similar high end cables like phoenix gold, etc.), makes a HUGE difference. The cheapies were giving me alternator noise and was distorting on the low end... Monster Cable took care of that for me

OT - big trouble in little china was one of the greatest movies ever made IMHO

Well that isn't an accurate analogy. It is more like, I have a GF4 TI600 (Eclipse) and those GF3 TI500 (Alpine) are crap! I agree Eclipse units are top of the line but if Alpine isn't second in line I don't know what is. 😉 Alpine has some budget units and I'm not too keen on them. If you go Alpine, I recommend you get the higher end stuff.

Here's my setup, Alpine head unit (it was their top of the line CD player at the time I bought it), 2 Alpine 10"s, Alpine 2 channel amp (just for the subs), Alpine 2-way 6.5s, and Alpine 6X9s. Like I said, they put in a custom box for my 10s in the back of my car that looks VERY nice. Anyway, I didn't buy my stuff from Circuit City, I got it for Hawk Electronics. They had a GREAT guy that did the installs for me and I on;y paid about $1500 for the whole setup, including labor. Not bad considering it would have cost me $2000+ if I went to CC. BTW, BB doesn't carry Alpine. 😉
