The quality of these vtech phones is terrible from what I have heard and seen from the one my dad just got. However pretty good price for someone who really wants a cordless phone. Just dont be dissappointed if you get it and its staticky.

If you are buying from Staples, Don't forget the 10 off 40 coupon. Brings the price down further.

My staples wouldn't PM. And this staples has always done everything - I've gotten the $20 Predator drive, the -$20 HP215 camera, the -$10 NICs and switch, etc. But when I handed the manager the compusa print, he refused to PM and wouldn't give a reason. I think I'll try again another day when someone else is there...

Call the Staples district manager and raise hell. I would buy the phone so it doesn't sell out before you can pricematch it. Then call the district manager. He'll get in trouble and probably have to apologize to you. It's worth it to see them grovel when they break company policy like that.

These phones are awesome! Lots of features for a cordless phone. I use the handset speakerphone all the time for listening to voicemail and such.
The one I have that came with the base station works perfectly. The other 2 extensions, on the other hand, have an audible rhythmic ticking. Strange, but not excessively annoying.

Only thing that sucks about the VT2461 that I've seen is there isn't much handset to answering machine integration. From what I can tell, you can't access the answering machine from the cordless handsets, and that would have been real nice.

Hmmm, does anyone know if Staples Online lets you PM to a store hundreds of miles away?

There's no local CompUSA, and the phone can't be ordered online from the CompUSA website, but they are in stock at the CompUSA in Tulsa which is 167-miles away from where I live!

Guess Staples CSR learned a lot from us. In my case, I did check CompUSA's web page, which showed the phone's price and in-stock in my local store. But Staples on-line CSR called my local CompUSA (lone-distance?) even after she saw CompUSA's web page. Then, she nicely told me they can't PM, since CompUSA is Out-of-stock.:Q

I called my local CompUSA later, they sure don't have that phone. And i was told the web page is not real-time:(

Anyone knows if a second base unit's handset can be used as an additional handset for the first unit?
In other words, I can buy another VT2461 (for $29.88) and use it as the $69.99 handset?

What's so important about using additional handsets? Why not just buy multiple phones and use them all as phones? I guess you would have to have phone jacks wherever you want to put them then, but otherwise I see no reason not to. (just remember to turn off the answering machine on all but one of them!)

dboy,

Good idea but from what I have heard is that you might have a problem if the power goes out. The answering machine defaults to "on" after a power outage.

You can read more from the 'chubby bill fold' thread. There might be a work around.

here

close to the end of the thread.

What I did was bought two 2431's as extentions. No worries about answering machines interfering and plus you can dial on the base unit.

Thanks Jimmyhaha. I got 3 from different Staples and one from Best Buy. So I have some of my 2002 gift shopping done. Staples will allow 3 rebates per household, BTW. Interestingly, the last Staples first told me they would not price match a discontinued item, but called CompUSA and CompUSA told them it WASN'T discontinued and that the $49 was the regular price :) If it is discontinued, maybe the local CompUSA just wanted to see Staples have to match. YMMV. I like the phone. It is clear in my home and the AM even has 3 mail boxes so the kids can keep their messages separate :)

Don't mean to dog this deal, But Homedepot has GE 2.4 ghz cordless phones for $22.00 without any rebate or pricematch. Hav'nt tried it yet but will let you know. However, it would have to suck to not be worth this. I'm in South Carolina, so could be regional, GOD knows we're ass backwards down here. I JUST WANT A FRY'S, FREE SEX WILL NOT DO, I WANT A FRY'S!!!

Yeah but this one has a lot more features I'm sure. You can't get a 2.4 phone with an answering machine, caller id etc and all the features this one has for $22.

Daaaamn, my friend went to OD and bought one at $50, but he heard the manager told employees to hide the phones and told customers out of stock. So I miss the deal.

Tried three Best Buy's in Orlando and none of them would PM since it is a discontinued model at Compusa.

I think that if you purchased from BB first, then go back with the Compusa ad or webpage printout, it's probably easier to get the PM going through.....instead of trying to PM first......plus if it does work.....BB should gave you an additional 10% off.......

I am in SC too. I visited all the three staples within 100 miles, none of them would PM to compusa, said it's out of stock, clearance, etc. I guess they did not actually call, but just pretended to do so, 'coz I did call and visit compusa, the phone was actually out of stock, but when I insisted that the phone in stock and gave the name of the associate I talked to, they didn't. :)
Finally, they just say they cannot take the price match, and asked me to go back monday when the general manager coming in. I would like to give up now, spent the whole day for nothing except the infiniti test drive for the palm 100. Maybe next time I should tell them if they cannot honor the PM, don't put the policy $H!T high on the wall. :)

Hi,

I purchased 1 on Staples.com - $30 online coupon and $20 MIR but then they did PM to CompUSA for $49.88 and staples has a $20 MIR.

I just hope I get the $20 for $32.87 Total w/Tax

Thanks

I didnt do this deal, but I did go to CompUSA and get the non answering machine version, with keypad on base unit as well. The phone is great! for the price, and no static.

So now, I just tried to get the Staples pricematch, and NO go. Its in their system flagged as a discontinued item. So they wont do it, tried several CSR's.

But again, Im still happy with the $50 phone I did get.

I dig that the handset can do speaker phone, all by itself away from the base also.

Toss that Vtech and choose the GE 2.4 Ghz at OfficeMax.

List $79.99
Now $29.99 with IR of $50!

A much better phone IMO.

Does the GE phone have an answering machine and caller ID? If so I may pick one up. I need those features.
