After 40 minutes of checking several COMPUSAs by a Best Buy customer service rep, she told me she couldn't price match since COMPUSA was out of stock and that it was a 'promotional' item.

I barked at her for taking so much time, and by doing so, maybe the stores ran out of the phones. I handed her a COMPUSA print out of several local stores that 'showed' them to be in stock. I barked more,....and more.....This helped.

She called the manager who eventually allowed for one phone (i had three in my hands).

Final price: $41.88 (- $20 rebate) = $21.88

Overall, it took about an hour of my time, but I guess it's worth it.

Advice: MAKE A SCENE, HOLD UP THE LINE, DON'T QUIT AND DON'T TAKE "NO" FOR AN ANSWER!!!

Can you understand messages left on the machine. The last Vtech phone/answering machine combo I bought was soooo poor... I had to throw it away.

Anyone actually own this phone and can tell us how the quality of the answering machine is?

Thanks.

That CompUSA link Jim supplied doesn't seem to work :(
I'm getting an item not find under the search on CompUSA site.
Is this deal dead?

I love my 2461. It's great. The answer machine is excellent, very clear. Yes there is a slight whitenoise in the back when using the phone but I can live with it. I love the in-phone speakerphone, very portable and loud. Yes for $160 I wouldn't buy it but at $30 it's the best in the class (go ahead compare all the features and benefits of this phone with other $30 phones, I bet none of them even comes close *grin*).

Now I'm not a VTech lover (hate the phones only slightly less than panasonic phones), but this phone is very well made and comfortable in my hands. It looks attractive (none of that 2000 series siemens ugly design) too. ;)

I went to best buy today at the Queens, NY one. They only have the digital answering machine ones left. They don't have the NON digital answering machine ones. But now compusa doesn't have the Digital Answering one (VT2461) on their site only the (VT2431) so you can't pricematch.

I have one of these. The phone itself is OK. Not the best I have
used, but not terrible either. I like the Panasonics I have elsewhere
in the house more, but this will do as a secondary extension.

The answering machine is pretty crappy. If you try to record your
own outgoing message...forget it. No way to make your message sound
like anything but crap. The built in message is fine, if you
are content with a she-bot answering your phone. The quality of the
messages it records is barely OK. Navigating through the saved
messages is painful. AND when you lose power, the answering machine
DEFAULTS back to answering machine on, which means that if this
isn't intended to be your primary phone/answering machine (i.e. you
are buying it as a cheap extension and don't plan on using the
answering machine) you do NOT want this phone (unless you place it
on a UPS). WHat will happen is the power will go out, it'll come
back on, and now all your calls will be answered by this machine
whether that's what you wanted or not.

All in all, I'd say it's worth $30 AR, but it's not all that
thrilling...

Check your staples inventory folks... mine just got a new batch in. I picked up another 2 2461 and 2 2431 + $40 off $200 coupon. I have nothing but good things to say about these phones. Very clear compared to my Siemens. And they don't interfere with my Cisco Aironet 802.11b setup either!

I tried this on Sunday but couldn't score one :( BestBuy and Staples did no accept to PM, and CompUSA was OOS.

But I guess I'm gonna jump as soon as I see another deal for this babies. I hope other companies will have some kind of clearance soon.

I was planning to get one of those new Siemens gigasets and I had concerns about its effect to my wireless home LAN. DonBlack's comment is pretty useful for me in those matters :)

One of my 2461s sits literally 12 inches from my Cisco 340 Access Point. All of my callers report crystal clear conversations in both this room and every other room of my apartment. My Siemens performed equally well with my access point though but the 24xx series seems a much, much better value at these prices.

I dont see how you could price match this at best buy because they do no carry the same phone that compusa has the model VT2431 and best buy has VT2461. Staples does have the VT2431 so that is why BB will not PM most likely.

Best Buy is by far the WORST price match store. I tried to price match the Vtech 2.4Ghz phones that were selling at CompUSA for $49 to the same model that was selling at Best Buy for $159. I even went over to CompUSA and bought one for $49 and showed it to the jerk  BB Manager. He still wouldn't honor their 110% off the difference low price guarantee because the clerk couldn't verify AVAILABILITY :Q via the phone. I really hate Best Buy! :disgust:[/

The base unit/answering machine accepts the same rechargable battery as the handset. Keeps it charged in case your handset goes dead and acts as a UPS for the base. Only problem is the spare battery is optional ($15-$20). Good quality on mine, great deal for $50! :D

If anyone just bought a phone at CompUSA (no pricematch),
there is a rebate here...
Here

That doesnt look to be store specific...so you might still get $20 back.

Unfortunately I did not get in on this deal, but the last two V-Tech deals posted I did get in on and I don't regret it. One was free after rebates and the other was $10. I have 3 V-tech phones in my house and they all perform well. I really like them and have no complaints. These phones can't be beat at these prices.
