I was looking up external drives and Google pops this up from Outpost.com Its $89.99 + $50.00 MIR = $39.99 plus shipping/tax (if applicable).

Linked Here

Specs from Outpost are: 7200 RPM Drive , with Retrospect Express Backup Software.

Rebate info is Rebate Linked Here

I don't know what kind of HD it is but $89.99 for a 250GB is warm to hot alone, with a $50.00 MIR its HOT!

I added the YMMV cause its one of them "if it sounds too good to be true deals" but good luck folks.

ordered and now waiting for cancellation. 😀

i think that's the same one on sale this weekend for around $150AR.

Might not be hot!!

Upon further review of the rebate it states that the puchased drive is a PARALLEL drive only.

Model # HS3250B72P

The drive listed on Outpost is a usb model.

So rebate might not apply.

What are you talking about ?

PATA is standard EIDE
SATA is the new format that they've come out with.

I'm not sure if there are even SATA External HD's out yet.
The one we are purchasing are PATA drive

Not true. If you do a google search for that part #, you'll find it referenced in a PC connection ad as the USB model.

I think the manufacturer just got a little overzealous about "Parallel ATA" instead of "Serial ATA" - not that it makes any difference for an external enclosure.

I ordered one, for $100 an external 250 gig drive sounds like a pretty good deal. If the rebate comes through, great. I'm a little wary of the "hammer" brand, but we'll see...

In the detailed discription there is no mention of the drive just the enclosure.
I think if you order it you will get an enclosure only that will take a 250GB drive.
