no it's not
you linked to a 265. it IS really expensive, but the point is to have two of them on a dual socket 940 to get 4 cores.
is it actually possible to run a 939 cpu on a 940 board with no problems? i thought it had to be a 939 board only....
he linked to a socket 940 cpu

Did you mean ...0535SPMW for the stepping? I've never seen a "5" before PMW.

Anyway Nice chip. I have almost the same stepping. Mine is week 34 rather than 35, and the word on the street is that the older the better. The 0530's are legendary. Anyway I tried for 2800 at safe voltage with no luck, so clearly you've got the skills🙂

Anyway My 0535SPMW is up for sale. I'm keeping my OEM chip instead.

Opty, PSUs and Venice 3200+ for sale...

I already have an X2 64 3800+ which I can return if need be. Can someone tell me if this Opteron is slightly better (because it's 'designed' for servers and may be more stable, plus double the cache), or significantly better? Specifically any reviews comparing the 2 in terms of gaming? I am not really interested in OCing, I would only consider a minor OC down the road. Also do motherboards have a hard time or easy time accepting Opterons? I have the ASRock ULI Dual-SATA2...

It will work fine with you ASRock Dual, and yeah it is better than X2 3800 from my point of view, and it will overclock better than X2.

Ya I saw on the ASRock site of supported CPUs that it supports the Opteron 165 as of BIOS 1.40.

Can someone explain the benefits or description of what rev. E6 means? I think I read that X2's have up to E4 or something... and Opteron 165 E6.

Hi guys, i need your helppppppppppp!!

I just bought from eWiz a venice 3200 stepping e3 about 3 weeks ago, it is an OEM and by what i read is one that is really good to OC (even though, i still have to learn how to do).
I ordered this 165 last night (about 8 hours ago).
But now i read this posting by a guy at slickdeals.net:

"(added to help people searching: opteron 165 oem is part # OSA165DAA6CD )

For the people so quickly saying they will do 2.6 easily - don't be so sure. Early batches did that, doesn't mean current ones will. Monarch has VERY fresh stock as they were completely out until just recently.

I have a x2 3800 that I got from an earlier Dell deal and with a good quality overclocking mobo (tforce) I am able to get 2.6ghz with 1.45 volts. But countless others are stuck at 2.5ghz and for me to get 2.7ghz I have to put in more voltage and get more heat than I am willing to deal with.

Don't expect more than 2.4ghz and be thrilled with even 2.5ghz.
The extra transistors to make the 2x1meg cache will actually hold you back, not help you, heat-wise.
Applications like encoding, benchmarks like superpi, etc could care less about the extra 512kb cache - it's core ghz rate that matters in those cases. Most reviewers admit it's only good for 3-5% boost.

Last but not least, remember it's oem warranty, 30 days."

What is your take, is it worth?? I will ebay my venice 3200 if it is.
Please give me your opinion. I could call Monarch to ask, but what should i ask? What stepping? CAB... something??

Since these are server chips they need to have top performance quality yields. So even though they've been out for awhile these should still oc as high as the first ones to come out.
I heard this in the oc forum. Not sure if its true or not. But it sounds logical.

Alright, i hope so. My line of thought is, even though at first i won't need to OC, but as long it is capable of reaching higher Mhz, it will be for me like an upgrade if i OC in a few months.
Anybody else's 2 cents???

I just called to check on my order too. It is being delayed due to shortage of memory I ordered at the same time. BUT, the guy said they have over 200, yes 200 of the processors in stock! So, order if you want one! I think I am going to split my order and at least get the proc. coming...

I wonder how long it will last??!! I have seen at least 4 different forums talking about this!!
