I STRONGLY suggest that new snowboarders go to a snowboard or ski shop to get fitted for the right board & boots. This is a smoking deal for someone who knows what they are looking for and the right board size they need but there's nothing more miserable than being on a board that doesn't fit your skill, weight, height and style.
With Xmas only a short ways away a lot of the sporting good stores are running specials on Board/Binding combos, some of which are a steal! Also be sure to get a helmet, it's the best 60 bucks I've ever spent on sporting gear.
