Hot deal on a snowboard

'00-'01 MLY Variable snowboard (157 or 161cm) at overstock.com for $180 shipped after 10% coupon discount. Retailed for $430 last year. Rated one of the top 25 boards for '00-'01 by transworld - link.

MLY is owned by the same company as M3 and both are produced at the same factory using the same methods. However, I think the parent company decided to only produce boards under the M3 name starting this season. Anyhow, all the guys at the board shops told me that the MLY is a great board and a hot deal at this price.

works a lot better if you do the $25 off $150 or more coupon. Comes out to $175 shipped.

Ive worked in a snowboard shop for about 5 years now every winter ive seen a few of those boards come hthrough and they are allright middle of the line lemme tell you ive seen a lot worse but for that price locally at least in SoCal you could prob get somthing a little better if you are lucky good board for a beginner though

Just a quick note to everyone if you ever get any new snowboard take it to your local shop and have them detune the tip and tail of the baord and also wax it. You can do it yourself if you know what you are doing but make sure you detune

Maybe I'd consider this, but it would be a complete waste to me. I guess living in Florida has some strains on what I *should* buy, even for kicks. 🙂

how can you size up a snowboard for someone? Im 5'9, and weigh 165

would this be a good board for me?

I can't find $25 off $150 coupon anywhere... Is that still around or did it expire already? Most I could find was 10% off over @techbargains

snowboard sizing made simple...
stand it up and it should hit between your chin and nose. if you have really big feet, get a wide board. i'm 5'7" 140lbs and i ride a 155. extrapolate from there and you should be able to figure out a size that suits you. best bet is to go to a store and talk to somebody.

having a white snowboard isn't that good cuz ice will get stuck to the board and it will never melt.

i'm sorry but that is just about the dumbest thing i've ever heard.

interesting.. my board is white. never had problem with ice getting stuck to it.

as for the $25 off $150 coupon, it's expired now. also, whoever said that this board is good for beginners. it's not! it's not a good board to learn on. but it's a great board if you already know the basics.

maestro.....i like the packaged that they offer on that site. i'm a beginner, and i'm looking for a good deal on some GOOD equipment. i don't want good beginner equipment i just want good equipment, period. but with that said, i don't want top of the line stuff here. i go to school in NY and there is a somewhat decent mountain nearby so i will be getting good use of whatever i buy

also is there a forum that i can chat on?!?!
thx

And I hope you now know that you're sizing advice is also a ridiculous thing in the snowboarding world.

I have a used white snowboard w/bindings (one buckled *uckled up) that I am willing to hit some with between the nose and chin with for cheap. Cost 400 clams. Only ridden by my Grandma on Sundays.
About to off it on EGAY.

Hey everyone, I'm going to go snowboarding again in a few weeks or so, and I am looking to buy a board, but I don know what size i should get. I'm a big guy, 6'4" 245, size 14 shoes so im pretty positive that I am goign to need a odd-sized board. Any suggestions on what equipment to get, or sizes, or anyhting?

yep. having a snowboard between chin to toe is a myth created by the snowboard rental shops =P snowboards sizes are more determined by weight, not height. check the back of most snowboards and there should be a sticker of some sort with a weight chart, usually with a range of 40-50 pounds for the snowboard. you want to be in the lower enf of the weight range.

snowpunk - what are the advantages of detuning? i remember hearing it was only for specific trypes of boarders, and never got it done. btw, i ended up getting a yakima rack system for about 40% off retail $250 shipped for everything(if you remember my WTB post in the FS/FT forum)

Hey Perc:

There many factors that should consider in regard to buying a deck, not only height and weight, but riding style, type of terrain among other things. Take a look at this board, man your a big guy - If I saw you coming down the mountain on this thing, I'd get out of your way 🙂

Not snowpunk but i can answer it. Detuning is done so you dont catch an edge as easily. Depending on rider skill and snow conditions you will want to detune accordingly. For example, if there is a lot of ice you will probably want a sharper edge, and softer snow you can get away with a less sharp detuned edge, it helps to exit turns quicker. Also if you jib rails and such a lot a detuned edge is nice so you dont catch an edge on those boardslides.

I'm really tempted on this deal, but I don't like the color and I never heard of them before....sure beats paying 400-500 for a new Libtech though.

I hope you now know that your grammar is poor.

Note that I said SIMPLE. If they're asking how to size a board, they've probably never ridden or ridden very few times. Nose-chin gets you approximately close in the length category and it pretty much works if you're a noob. It's up to you to decide whether you feel that you need a shorter/longer, stiffer/softer board when you get better. Not everybody is "on purpose" like you so they're not going to know the finer points of board sizing based on preferred riding style and conditions. If my simple sizing method is so ridiculous then offer up your sizing method instead of just flaming. Flame me some more, but you will be ignored.

I need a snowboard soon... Anybody now any other places online to shop for boards. This is a good price for a board, but plain looking.

it's not simple. that's just plain wrong. snowboards are all designed differently, two boards designed for people of the same stature can be completely different. a couple key things to look for when buying a board are freestyle or freeride, weight, what kind of core the board is made of, etc...

Not to mention that someone posted a link with the correct procedure already so it would have been redundant. Attacking my grammar just shows how little info you really have to add to this discussion. If they don't know the correct procedure, then teach them the correct procedure or keep your mouth shut. You obvious don't know it, and are giving out information that is just plain wrong, it does not "pretty much work." Weight and foot size are the main points of board sizing.
