Thanks,

Bud
I would suspect overstocked OEM bundles... Doesn't account for the XT that isn't available yet.. However they could be anticipated returns from builders like DEll, who may be returning them..

Well...I really do not think any (or maybe an odd few cards at the most) of these cards are returns from OEMs. I'm 100% sure there are 10's of thousands of orders are pending for these cards and Dell has been known to carry as little as ~2 weeks worth of "inventory" of PC parts (i.e., all the OEMs try to follow suite put always seem to fail).

I went to the IBM website ~5 weeks ago and they carry ~3 video cards (no joke)...all low end (X700, etc.) so no returns from IBM.

Maybe some from HP/Compaq, NEC, Gateway/E-machines? But I really do doubt it.

I truely think ATI is building these cards because they have no choice.

The 7800GTX has been around since mid-June and anyone buying an X800XT PE or 6800 Ultra after the release of the 7800 was most likely "out of the graphics card loop" or they needed a high end card right away and didn't have the extra cash for a 7800. I also doubt any stores/OEMs ordered many X800XT PEs after the release of the 7800.

Aren't there "manufactured" dates on the S/N stickers of these cards...that be a sure way to find out if they are returns or newly made?

I'm fairly confident the X800XT PE's won't ship until the end of next week or later and ATI CSRs said the credit card wouldn't get nailed until they ship...so you may have some extra time BEFORE the bill is due. If dough is really tight...you may not want to risk it though;-)

It will be interesting to see if every order for the X800XT PE is filled. I hope to get at least 1 of the 2 I ordered.

I will guess that 80-90% of the orders for the PE's get filled and all of the orders for the Pro's (especially the orders place on August 10 or earlier). I expect to see some X800XT PE's starting to ship by August 17. Just a hunch.

Although I ordered one of these on 8/1, I cancelled last night after placing the order for the 7800 GT from Dell in the other thread. Someone should be lucky for displacing my place in line!

Did you also decide to build/ditch your AGP setup for PCI-E (i.e., the ATI cards are AGP while the 7800GTs are PCI-E at least for now)?

For what it's worth I just got my X800 XL PCI-E from www.globalcomputer.com for $229.99, + $9.99 shipping, in stock, retail version. I couldn't see spending $475.00 for a 7800. It'll be 3 years, or more, before any games suppot it fully.

You got the lowest price I've seen for this card yet.

Yea, changed my simple video card upgrade to a whole innards swap. Ordered a SD 3700, DFI Lanparty UT NF4 Ultra-D, and the BFG 7800GT for ~350.00 from Dell.
Luckily, I was able to unload my current setup so, it wasn't too painful.

The 800XT PE for $229 is still a sweet deal imo.

Bud, I'd PM you about this, but you have them disabled.

Do you work for ATI? You seem to have a lot of guesses and hunches that may turn out to be correct.

when I come to my senses I will be cancelling my order too (from 7/28). I also recently built a new DFI NF4 setup. This is such a good deal though that I keep contemplating sticking with AGP a bit longer.

Joshsquall,

I've enabled PMing if you care to share your thoughts?

Thanks in advance!

Bud

Mine is CNL2034600, for the x800xtpe, order placed 8/10 at 11:00 p.m.

Well...this means ~35,540 orders were placed with ATI from July 29, 2005 at ~2:30 p.m. (my purchase date/time with an order number of ~CNL1997060) until 8/10/05 at 11:00 p.m. or over ~12.5 days. I bet 35,539 of these orders were for the X800 Pro and X800 XT PE with 1 order placed for a DVI dongle;-)

Looks like ATI has been getting ~2,875 orders per day pretty much consistently over the last 12 days.

I think this video card deal will only be around for another 3 days or so. For anyone "riding the fence", you may want to consider making a decision fairly soon. I think the above because if ATI can't build/ship the cards (i.e., bank revenue) by their quarter's end on August 31, they have little reason to "order" more components to build "old" cards.

The last digit in the order number may be a checksum so the above calculation may be off by a factor of 10 (but I'm just guessing and now the point is moot as no new order will be placed).

Did it look refurbed, or new?

Well, it looked completely new. I didn't check the SN date, but the card was in flawless condition. The whole card was shiny and bright.. and didn't have a spec of dust on the fan.

Neither of my order numbers ended in a zero....checksum still a possibility?

ZipZoomFly has got the MSI X800XT Platinum Edition with free shipping for $249.00

MSI X800XT Platinum Edition for $249

I think you end up paying maybe $10-15 more than the ATI Refurbs, but it looks like this is retail and still backed for 3 years. ANy reason to cancel the ATI refurbs and jump on this deal?

What should I do????

I ordered the refurb X800XT PE from ATI. Who knows when I'll get it....This deal from ZZF is only $17 more incl shipping. It's a retail box, not refurb.

My current BFG 6800 OC (which I paid $199 for 3 months ago) works fine.

Do I cancel the ATI deal & get the ZZF deal?
