Not that bad, except ATT GSM can't receive calls in wooden buildings, not to mention brick buildings in the Bay Area!

should be term of teh contract. this has nothing to do with the "1000 mins spreaded out over 4 mo" plan.

i just went on their website and got the customer care #.
couple different scenarios for you though..

1. as a new sub you might get the promotional 600 mins but not credit on the phone/1st mo service credit, just whatever on their website the price after instant rebate.

2. i was informed about this deal on the night of 12/5, the CSR told me that the deal was NOT going to be on until 12/6. i called in 12/6 morning three times and only the last person found the deal.
it looks like a deal that they/re not very well informed of, and i think the reason might be that this DOES NOT GO WITH GSM, since they do not advertise non-GSM plans now (only available to continuing subscribers)

you can sure try it though, i tried 5 times total.

I think their promotion is a bonus of 500 rollover minutes with activation with $39.99 plan or higher right now and any unused minutes expire within 12 months.

Never thought of going to their headquaters and getting activation though, do you have a link to all their locations?

http://www.cingular.com/buy/store_locator
find the stores named Cingular Wireless. go there and try your luck and charm :)

When you said "headquarters" I thought you were talking Cingulars's centralized locations within California the have support staff and billing offices not their retail core stores. The "headquarters" you are talking about I have visited and the authorized Cingular dealers seem to offer more than the core stores.

they were also talking about this on howardforums, only difference was that they said there's no N/W minutes, just 1000 anytime (similar to what T-Mobile had).

OS: I could've sworn people said that the GSM service down in socal has been god-awful as of late. Nothing but complaints from anyone that (still) uses AT&T.

i just confirmed with another CSR at ATT and this deal is $40 for 400 min + 600 promotional min
$50 off phone and first month service credit free is because i'm renewing.

so this is hot since i would think that 600 promotional min can be added onto different price plans.

does this work for online deals? at attwireless.com?

Is it just me or is this just getting more confusing? First its 1000 anytime minutes yada yada for $39.00 now its 400min for $39.00 + 600 "promotional minutes", now does promotional means that the 600 minutes rollover for a year until you use them all or is that 400 + 600 = 1000 a month?

Anyone else able to do this deal?

Also why are you guys posting comments about AT&T's service, cell phone companies have good coverage in some areas and bad coverage in others....where AT&T might be bad in your area it could be great in another. Not everyone on these forums lives where you live.

right on Nemesis300...:D

Also.... like I have posted elsewhere... ATT has some roaming agreements with other companies like Cingular. So, if you choose a local plan.... you can roam on Cingular's network free of charge...within your local calling area. Thats what I do.... so if you have a local plan and
a) Like an ATT local plan
b)Like Cingular's coverage...etc (If att's coverage is better... thats even better)
c) Like ATT's phones

You can go ahead and get their phone:p.
However... if you intend to use a lot of mmode... that costs while roaming:D

Mohan.

I guess it depends where. My parents got a GSM phone and it's fine in Rancho Cucamonga so far.

Of course TDMA has been solid since the beginning of time.

That's not entirely true. In certain places you can't roam no matter what.

i thought there was a plan $40 for 1000min but i guess that was why the CSRs were not able to find it in the system.
it is for renewal members they have the ability to slap on this promotional 600min/mo. this is not 600 total spreaded out over 4 mos. this is 600 min every month for the year.

i do agree with service coverage varies with area, att sucks in soCal.

ATT GSM sucks. Badly. Had it for a year now and intend switching to Verizon at the end of this month. Been with ATT for 4 years and its reached its worst for me now in the LA area, although TDMA on my old Nokia 6160 was the best.

Siemens S46 GSM/TDMA phone favors a weak GSM signal over a strong TDMA signal. It favours a roaming GSM signal over an ATT TDMA signal, and overall talking on GSM is like removing every 5th word from your conversation. I've been on GSM overseas and it was totally clear, so I'm not sure whether to blame the phone or ATT.

I've been polling my friends/workers and the majority of the happy ones are using Verizon.

While some people say that ATT TDMA is best for San Fran. it is not the best in the bay area (specifically East bay) where the service is horrible, Currently I have Tmobile which works great all over and a buddy who is a contractor has Verizon and it also has been good for him, just a heads up if you plan on traveling outside of S.F.

Not for anything, but I use ATTWS with a Nokia 6360 ($170 phone) and never had a problem nationwide with getting service anywhere, anytime, any weather conditions. Sometimes the better quality phones might just shine through. :D

howhao, I think you just recieved a retention plan...I don't think this is for new sign-ups as well. sounds YMMV

or

you got this plan; "1,000 BONUS Anytime Minutes

250 additional minutes a month for four months starting January 2004, on all Local, National and Family plans $39.99 a month or above with a 2-year agreement. Unused minutes expire each month. Additional Anytime Minutes: All terms and conditions relating to Included Anytime Minutes apply." and think its 1000 anytime minutes every month??
