my year is up so i called them up and asked for a good deal since ATTws TDMA has the best service in the bay area, CA (yes i had verizon, sprint, even cingular, what? T-who?)
i had to do a run-around and talked to 3-4 people but i ended up with this.

promotion started TODAY and it is very hard for them to find it.

$39.99
1000 anytime
unlimited n/w
free LD
free txt msg
4 states travel
$50 off phone + first month service credit ($50)

i think it's a pretty good deal, compared to my $50 for 800 min for this past yr, this is flaming for me. i got nokia 6560 for $25

****this just in***
i just confirmed with another CSR at ATT and this deal is $40 for 400 min + 600 promotional min
$50 off phone and first month service credit free is because i'm renewing.

so this is hot since i would think that 600 promotional min can be added onto different price plans.

yes but switch to ATT GSM and you'll see how utterly terrible service is in the bay area. verizon is the best IMO. i have ATT GSM and i hate it. i cant wait till my contract runs out. there are dead spots across the city of Berkeley.

i am not dumb.
why do you think i didn't switch to GSM? they have the coolest phones on the market hands down, but they're only available for GSM.

my g/f went to berkeley and i was there a lot. both of us had att TDMA and it worked great.

like i said, TDMA from att is definitely the best service in the bay area.

ATT is going downhill fast. They WERE reliable but now they are just terrible. Their software doesn't even work anymore

Good luck switchin from AT&T, they are in trouble with the FCC for number portability. They have been making people wait almost a week in some cases. All the other carriers are using one third party company, but not AT&T. Bastards!

And i thought i was the only one having problems with AT&T. Their service sucks badly

That's why i cancel their freaking contract and paid them the early termination fee just to switch to Cingular.

AT&T better get their act together quick, since the complaints from all directions are mounting up. Several members of other wireless dedicated forums are starting to call them AT&Terrible. Check out the AT&T forum on http://www.howardforums.com and see for yourself the unusally high amount of complaints.

I hope for their sake they pull it together, as I used to be one of their loyal customers.

I have been very satisfied with AT&T too - from a coverage point view. Customer Service, I will give them a 'B' - just above average!

My biggest beef with them is the fact that their GSM (yes, they do have all the coolest phones for GSM & not TDMA!) has so many holes in coverage it looks like the surface of moon. But, since they are supposed to completely move over to GSM, their coverage is bound to get better. I travel a lot, so they are still probably the best for overall nationwide coverage. I wish they would make some nice phones for fual-band that wil work bor both GSM & TDMA networks! Sigh...

the only manufacturer that makes dual band is siemen and the phone that are dual band are usually not very attractive and whne you switch from tdma to gsm during a conversation or vice versa you get cut off.
plus it drains the battery a lot faster and the monthly rate is much more expensive.

IMO i'd use their TDMA until the contract is over again and then go somewhere else.

This is what I found on their site

"1,000 BONUS Anytime Minutes

250 additional minutes a month for four months starting January 2004, on all Local, National and Family plans $39.99 a month or above with a 2-year agreement. Unused minutes expire each month. Additional Anytime Minutes: All terms and conditions relating to Included Anytime Minutes apply. "

Is this what you are talking about?

Well looks like this is YMMV because it sounds to me like they put this deal together for you, not because they have a promotion going. Although there could be a promotion going and I hope there is because I would sign up for it. I used their online customer service to do a quick check about this and he said there was no promotion like that and the only thing he said was the same thing as the above post about the 1000 bonus minutes. If you could guarantee this is a promotion that would be cool, but untill then I'll just wait to see if anyone else has any luck with it.

Actually there is also an Ericsson TDMA/GSM GAIT phone. A TDMA/GSM phone in itself does not drain the battery - the battery just doesn't last as long in the rare occasion you're in TDMA mode. Also, the monthly rate is the exact same for the multi-band plans as it is for GSM only plans.

If that's true, then this is much less hot.

Saw this in my local paper the other day and was amazed that ATTWs would offer this many minutes with the $39.99 plan. Too bad the GSM service in my area is so spotty that I cancelled my service within the allowable 30 day return period and returned the phones. Nice deal if you have good coverage in the area you will be using the service. I read that this is allowable with the family plan too.

Also, seems that Cingular is looking to expand and is looking at other smaller cell providers, including ATTWS and T-Mobile, to merge with. If that is true then ATTWS might be worth getting then in the near future since the coverage here is way better than ATTWS.

i love cingular. love it love it love it. love its rollover and online usage checking. btw, if u go to their headquarter instead on retailer store or online, you can get better deal. i got my activation fee waived and got a free battery. those guy sitting there , not have enuf business to do. they love to see you come in. and wait to see what they throw at you when u promise to bring your friend in.
i think with rollover, cingular 650 minute means more that att 1000 minutes.

I think their promotion is a bonus of 500 rollover minutes with activation with $39.99 plan or higher right now and any unused minutes expire within 12 months.

Never thought of going to their headquaters and getting activation though, do you have a link to all their locations?

i never thought the day would come when i would want to switch back to cingular. they used to have the most horrid service up here in the bay area after they took over pac bell's service. it's gotten significantly better though. att was surprisingly disappointing. like the OP said tho, their TDMA is alright. verizon is the way to go though if you want excellent service up here.
