Hot Deal? Antec SX830 w/PS for $50 after MIR?

Togez, it has been saying "ships in 2-3 days" all this week, so that does not mean anything... Sorry to disappoint you.

On the good side, techbargians has info about an antec 300W midtower case for $50 AR at bestbuy next week. It seems to be this case.

Any ideas about it? Is it much worse than the 830? Should we get it like tomorrow, or keep waiting for the one from outpost?

It's funny, when I go to track my order, the page say 69.95 after rebate since they've changed the price, but my total for the item still says $70. Looks lik they goofed up. Anyways I'm optimistic that we'll all get our case for $50 cuz the rebate for now clearly shows upt to Dec 14. So to all that are getting impatient, DON'T CANCEL YOUR ORDER!

Another company playing games with Antec. When I buy an Antec case from a company that is authorize to sell that case, then I expect a three year warranty, not a one year warranty. Last week, I did call Antec to check up on outpost and just for my own peace of mind. I get the impression the sale was a real surprise to Antec.

If outpost screws me, and sells me a fake Antec, you better believe that I will dispute the charger on my CC and fight them tooth and nail.

My info, gained from talking with a CSR at Antec, is that Fry/outpost is authorize to sell Antec equipment. However, it a bad business practice to cheapen the image of your business partner. I perceive that other major venders,who are authorize to sell Antec, price the SX830 at the MSRP, the same price which Antec wants on its website. According to a recent lookup I did on pricewatch, the low price on the case is $65 and probably a hefty shipping charge.

I hope everyone is aware that the $20 rebate is a group of promotions that involve one product, the SX830 and certain Antec's partners. The idea is that Antec provide an incentive for a company, e.g. Best Buy, to advertise an Antec product and then tell the consumer he or she can get $20 back for buying the case. Maybe while in the store, a few customers might also buy other products. I bet that the online vendor who offered the SX-830 for $65, had a snow ball chance in h*** of getting anyone a $20 rebate.

What funny is that a week ago, one could buy the SX-830 off Antec website. It was about a hundred and came without a rebate offer. Now it is backordered. Next time that Antec brings out a rebate on a product, guess which company will be treated like us. Left in the dark and feed s***.

The BB one looks to be a KS282+PP303X. I got one from BB back in the summer, and my only complain would be the lack of thumbscrews. Other than it being a mid-sized and the SX830 being a full-sized, I can't tell you anything more since I don't have a SX830 to compare it with (missed the deal while I was away in Vegas with no net access). Perhaps someone else could offer more info.

The KS282 and the SX830 are really in whole separate leagues. I've dealt with both cases, and here's a quick comparsion from my point of view:

The KS282 is Antec's "Solution" series and are comparable with the Enlight 7237 and the such. It is your standard mid-tower case and doesn't come with much extra bells or whistles. However, for a standard mid-tower case, it is very well built. There are mounts for two additional 80mm fans, and the front one can be easily modded to accomodate larger fans. The case is very sturdy and the metal doesn't give you that cheap and filmsy feeling as with some other generic cases. The 3.5" drive cage snaps in and out with a quick-release switch, very easy to use.

The SX830 is Antec's "Perfomance" series, which, IMHO, are some of the best-built plastic cases to date. The case itself is MUCH bigger and heavier. The side panel pops right off with a press of the quick-release handle and can be locked, so you don't have to deal with screws at all. There are 4 80mm fan mounts instead of two, and the mounts are snap-in instead of screw-in. 5.25" drives are installed using the included drive rails so you can slide them in and out easily. There are TWO 3.5" drive cages instead of one, and both employs the same quick-release switch mechanism as the KS282.

The two cases are really not in the same class to be compared. The SX830 wouldn't make a good LAN box because of its heavy weight and size. However, if you are not looking for mobility in a computer case, The SX830 beats the KS282 in every way.

The raised the price on the case here is a link UPDATED PRICE! NOT SO HOT ANYMORE!


The csr told me the same thing about the shipment. The CSR was steve. He said today or tommorow. Huge Shipment on the cases. Rebate is supposed to be updated to reflect Dec 14th.

Dont worry about it. All they did is changing the title of the item. When you get your case, you'll get an invoice with $70 on it, send that in with the rebate and you'll get your $20 back. Making the case $50 total.

The price is just linked to their newest price. So don't worry since they will charge you $70 and you will get the rebate.

I received my case today. FWIW, I placed my order on Nov 29th around 11:45 PM EST.

The case and all the fixin's look great. Even with a 300W power supply this is worth more than $50.

I just got a notification that my order (place on Nov 30th at about 8:40 am) has shipped today (Tuesday). The order status on the Outpost page still says "Backordered", though.

That means that they did indeed get a new batch of those and sending them out.
