Hmmm well the price is good for a basic scanner. I got one last time the had it at this price and they sent a parallel version not USB as listed. Well its up again still says USB, but In not sure what it is check the old thread for more details.

Looked at this last night, NO support for W2K or ME, but a nice deal if you have W98. Buy two for only $1.00 more added to shipping. Shipping is around 7-8 dollars for 1-2 units.

These guys are bastards...

I ordered 3 USB ones last time, and got all parallel port versions because they said they didn't have any USB ones, blaming it on their suppliers...

Only get it if you don't mind parallel port version

I thought Insight credited everyone's credit card and told them to keep the parallel scanner. It was my understanding that they admitted the error and tried to fix it. Can anyone confirm this?

I just ordered two and I wish I will get them FREE :)

If no, great price for a USB scanner ($20 each after shipping)

For those who bought it before, are those scanner NEW?

Thanks

I searched their site last night and it said Windows 98 only. They changed it today. Good, this would be a great gift for my sister who is getting a new computer this Christmas.

If you click "Download Instructions" it talks about their driver 1.03 USB, but they are posting v1.04, which says its ME compatible. Still doesn't say anything about being W2K compatible though.

Here's the link to the Support page for this scanner.

Has anyone actually scanned anything with this scanner? Does it have decent quality? Is there a big difference between the 300x600 DPI scanners, and the 12x6 DPI scanners?

hehehe ya they are horrible in comparison... but the scanner itself is not all that bad. I dont think its fair to compare this guy to a high quality HP. Look at the original thread I posted some links to reviews of this scanner...

I'm one of the people that ordered this scanner last time thinking it was USB. When I called them a few hours later, they told me that the order was already processed and they weren't sure if it was USB or not. The CSR told me to just deny the package if it wasn't, but I wasn't home at the time and recieved it anyways.

After getting it, and seeing that it was parallel port, I wrote them an e-mail simply stating that they had sent me the wrong product. Not making a fuss or anything, but stating that it was no fault of my own. They told me to call them back, and when I did the CSR told me that he would credit the full amount minus shipping. No hassle, and no fighting.

The scanner overall works ok for the money. I only use it to e-mail pics. For you all that require high end scanners, this isn't the way to go. But, I'm not complaining for only 7$ (S/H) So, take a chance....

And for a parallel port scanner, it wasn't that bad.

They didn't credit my card and tell me to keep it (as I had read others describe in the forum)

They didn't admit it was a mistake, lied and said it was a typo, later saying it was their suppliers fault for not carrying it.

I emailed them today and said that now since they have it in stock they should take back my two unopened scanners and exchange me the USB but I doubt I'll get anywhere with that since their customer service is horrible.

The four times I called I got:
1. "Sorry I don't know what to do about it but I can offer you a discount on a more expensive scanner"
2. "Please hold sir..." and then HUNG UP
3. "No you can't speak to a manager but I can have one call you" WHO OF COURSE NEVER DID
4. "We can take the scanners back and give you a (store) credit RMA"

If you also got bad service from them, contact tmoakler@insight.com and let him know that you and BigD480 are pissed ex-customers.

hmmm sorry you have had trouble maybe because you got 2... Mine was very easy... The same deal I sent an email they asked that I call so I did, and 5 minutes later they were telling me to keep it and they were sorry for the mix-up. Got the credit to my card about a week later...

There will be more, there always is. After hearing the tales of woe, the memorex deal was a sweet one.

Try it tomorrow or the next day. They must have a warehouse full of these. The falling stock number is just a ploy to entice you to hurry up and buy. This company leaves something to be desired in the customer service department, if the reviews of the site are to be believed. Some good, some bad and some downright terrible. You be the judge.

you know what, when you guys get back to check your order status in your insight account for your order of this scanner, you may see they changed it to "Order Status: Order is in process Status: Not Available" so you probably can't get it or the keep send you PP version again.
I saw QTY: 700 when I put the order and it was ok to go thru. but now they change my invoice to Not Available??, .. oh well... as my insight, I think Insight gonna delete my order soon or give me some stupid excuses like $taples.com csr does.

TYPICAL INSIGHT BULL$HIT:

Notice the identical Manufacturer's part numbers. The $15 one is out of stock but the $29 one has 2062 in stock and I'm sure they'd ship it if you want to pay that much.

bigd480 has an important point, that this is one big SCREW, and that this deal should probably be avoided.

I was going to order one for my Sister for Christmas, but after what I am seeing, and the questionable business practices of Insight, I think I will pass. The scanner got awful reviews anyway, even if it's 15.00. Just because its cheap doesn't make it worthwile to own. There are DAMN good scanners out there for 50-60 bucks that will be around long after you have tossed this one in a dumpster.
