Does this or any creative labs card have onboard connectors to connect to the front connectors on your case?

I'm pretty sure they don't. I believe that's why they have their own front case connector.

Time to look for a creative alternative then - anyone know of any that have awesome sound quality (dont care for other features)

Hadn't thought about it, but I don't think there really is anything remotely competitive in the gaming sound market to the SB series. There used to be this A3D stuff a while back, forget who made those, but that's been ages ago.

Since ZZF is located in CA, it's still 11/14/05 there, though it's 11/15/05 here where I am in FL, can I still get the rebate?

I wouldn't worry about the rebate. You should worry: How trustworthy is ZipZoomFly?

You better think about what happens when you have an issue with one of their products. 15% restocking fee period. Plus you pay the shipping. You like saving $4 on a $300 video card and losing $45+ on a defective video card. ;-)

Like Zip Zoom Flying without a parachute! Zip Zoom Fly Splat! RIP.

Well if you buy a product it will be most likely brand new retail and if there is any defects you are supposed to get a RMA with the manufacture not return it (warranty). I do not see myself getting hit with the 15% restocking fee, because there is probably no reason to return anything to Zipzoomfly. Zipzoomfly is a highly rated reputable site, but have somewhat stricter policies mainly being no exchanges whatsoever.

I got in on this; thanks OP.

There is only a packing list in the package. It does not show the price. So, I cannot use it as the receipt for the rebate.

What should I use as the receipt? I tried to call them. But, no one picks up the phone!

When I log into their web site and click on the order, I get a page that shows the price and my name and address and the purchase date. So, it has all the info needed on a receipt. But, it is just a web page! Am I supposed to print that and use it as the receipt?

I jumped on a similar deal from ZZF last month with the Audigy 2 ZS (non-Platinum). $80 - $40 MIR. The rebate came faster than I expected it to. I think it had to be postmarked by October 15th, and I just got my rebate check today, when I had pretty much forgotten about it completely. Kinda wish I had waited a little longer now and gotten in on this instead, but I'm happy with what I've got.

On a side note, yeah, ZZF's restocking fee does suck. I had to pay it because of my own stupidity when I built my first computer. I accidentally ordered a PATA hard drive instead of the SATA one I wanted, and failed to notice this until it arrived. Argh. Guess I'll pay more attention next time, though. :p

The audigy 2 ZS is one of the first cards worth buying since the live!
The audigy 1 sucked, they lied on advertising about its capabilities in regards to 96hz sound and 24 bits. Audigy 2 they finally implemented the stuff they claimed they were going to. It also has good quality outputs and inputs.

If you have a decent pair of 2.1 speakers it might be noticible in the quality differance from a live! just depends on what you listen to. If you listen to low quality mp3s, I doubt you'll notice much differance. If you listen to cds or high quality mp3s you probably will. Even games will probably sound better with audigy 2 zs as opposed to the live! because it supports a later generation of EAX. So you'll get the improved enviromental sound stuff, but not the improved surround stuff.

As for comparing this to the new x-fi, it just depends on what you want. If you primarily game, you may want to grab an inexpensive version of the x-fi card (as of yet there's not many games that use the x-fi game stuff, one is battlefield 2 though). If you like the platinum features of the 2 zs such as the box thingy with additional inputs and outputs (like if you are into recording stuff or mixing, or you are a musician) then you'll probably be needing those features more than a bit of gaming improvement.

You should read some good reviews on the audigy 2 zs (doesn't have to be platinum) and see if you like what features it has. And read some on the x-fi as well if you are interested in that.

A quick google turns up this very detailed review on 2 zs:

And on the same site a large 2 part on the x-fi:
