No staples for you!

LOL Best post in this entire thread.

It is possible to use coupon and PM Staples against a competitor however YMMV.

Damnit I need a "Building Courage Toward Price Matching for Dummies" book. I'm a chicken, I can't go up and ask for pricematch... I suck. I guess I'll stick w/ Fry's $70 WD deal...

It's not like they are going to hunt you down.. The worst can happen is that you can't have the drives for $129. No big deal.

I used to do alot of pricematching but now I am too lazy to do it.

LMK when you guys find a deal like this without a rebate or pricematching. :p

Yeah me too!

Also on the $500 deal ... I'm glad you have $500 to be just throwing around!

The Barracuda 5 is serial ATA and I am willing to bet he didnt get it for 70 bux.
He got a standard Barracude IV with 2MB cache.

Even though there'll be a "big fat coupon" clearly listed on the receipt, your post refund purchase amount will still be > than the $100 cpn amount. If you find a gullible enough CSR, you can try playing it off like it was a gift certificate. At any rate, I anyway slapped my own method w/ a "HUGE YMMV," so if you want to try it, be prepared to return everything.

Wrong, there are Cuda Vs that are regular IDE. It seems to me that the Serial ATAs have yet to become popular in a lot of stores.

link to best buy deal for cuda V for about $90

Where in that link does it say Barracuda V? That link shows a 7200RPM, ATA 100, 2MB cache drive....which is a IV.
You can either get 8mb SATA (V) or 2mb IDE (IV)....I dont think there is an 8mb IDE version in V series.

TightHardware... How did you manage to convince the SRep to pricematch the $88.53 price? I mean, it clearly says: $88.53 after rebates. Does Staples accept this kind of PMing?

I actually went to office depot first, and had the manager print me out a receipt of their instant price, then they printed me out one of their rebates at the register. Next I went over to staples and gave them the receipt and told them that there was a also a $40 mail-in rebate. The manager told the girl how to enter everything in, and taddaaa! :) you know the rest

Hmm, the link to the best buy drive is a bit amgibuous I will admit but go to Storage Review and you will see that it is only the SATA version of the Cuda V that has the 8 meg buffer and the IDE version has 2 MB. The drive in the BB link could either be a V or a IV. There are ATA versions of this drive out: dell.com is selling them and also the review at storagereview.com

Great deal!! I just phoned in an order to Staples. The CSR answered and I said OD had the drive online for $88.53 after rebate, could they price match. She said we'll price match at $89.99, (Staples $139.99 less $50 in rebates.) As far as the price match guarantee, she knocked off another $5.00 per drive, (not sure how she came to that amount, not complaining though). We're down to $84.99 per drive. Ordered two of them, she lets me use a $30 off $150 coupon. Total $146.98, including tax. 92 cents per Gig w/8 Meg cache, hot.

So is it better to do this deal over the phone? It seems that what most people are doing? If so how do you prove to them the OD price?

Can someone PM me a walkthrough of exactly how to get this deal, I am really interested, but not quite sure I understand how.

I'm sorry to ask, but can someone PM me too? I really need to get some drives for comps I'm putting together, and this would be a great deal, but I'm in the middle of exams in grad school (engineering), don't have a ton of time.

Thank you guys so much...these forums help me spend all that extra money I have!

Well if you work there and you don't know about it, then you're just proving his point. IT IS IN BLACK AND WHITE that coupons will be taken into account. maybe you should go read your training manual some more or something.

*laugh* this guys trying to make the deal crap-

Anyway, I don't know when staples adopted this policy, but in december I did 3 transactions with both PMs and Coupons. All of it was over the phone so I don't know if that makes a difference, but whatever-
