Lately, OM has been making it pretty difficult to use a coupon on HD's or burners with big rebates. As for CC's rebates, the last time (April?) there was a SNAFU with WD & CC rebates, where they mistakenly advertised an extra $60 reb, CC stepped up and paid up like a champ. I dont even think this triple $40 is a mistake this time, but who knows... i got my shelf tag for backup :)

So as it turns out, in spite of showing in stock at my nearest CC, the drive was nowhere to be seen on the shelf. A sales clerk looked in the warehouse and found none. I mentioned the three rebates and he said he knew about it, but it was a mistake that had been corrected. My guess is the store manager pulled them from the shelves and will have them put back out after one of the rebate purchase dates has expired. So thanks to CC for helping me save money. I didn't really need another hard drive, but at that price it was hard to resist. Office Max will help me save money if I try to place an order for the WD drive on Sunday morning because it will show up as sold out.

Only got two rebates like many others... My store didn't have any on the shelf or the ad posted. Got the CRS to check inventory...Two due on Sat. Bought one to P/U. Told him I understood there were suppose to be three MIR @ $40? He checked, came back said he could only locate the two...Now I can go back with the shelf Tag and copy of the rebate #YB273. Thanks TheDude8,CherryBomb, BurninFire & OLLIEBG. I asked the CRS why would we buy this one for $140.00 with only two $40.00 MIR when we can get the WD for $130. - $70? =$69.58 With tax you end up paying about the same for a Branded version ?

Okay, here's what I got. The rebadged western digital HD from CC is HD1200JR. If you bought/buy it while program y9980 is good (expires 12/14), Then you will get 2 rebates printed out. Thats y270 and y9980 ($40 and $40). Y@73 DOESN'T print. I called CS and they said that they are having trouble with that rebate... All you have to do is mail a copy of the recipt with the item circled, a copy of the UPC Barcode from the box and your return information ( I'd also mention program Y273) To... Circuit City Rebates, P.O. Box 3650, Young America, MN. 55558-3650. And that should do it. Though I see that there is a scan available up in the thread of Y273 so maybe just use that and fill in your own info. Good luck. I bought the last one in Erie, PA. last night. And i didn't see any more today at noon.

Went to get one at BM Arlington TX was told that one of the $40.00 rebates was a mistake. That there are only two $40.00 rebates. It worked out to be $150.00 - $80.00 = $70.00.
Got one anyway. If anyone knows how I can get the other let me know. BTW they had 2 drives left at 5PM today

ChainGang & others out there . I went back this afternoon to p/u HD & explained how I only got the two rebates. The CRS very nicely (I might say) reprinted them up for me. Still Only two rebates. I showed him the print-out of the Sale AD & the rebate ( both posted here). He said that the rebate that I had should work. That, that is how they look if you down load them on-line. So that is what I'm going to do. All you need for YB273 is a copy of the UPC Barcode, Copy of the receipt & your signature. P.O. Box 4624 Young America, MN 55558-4624. He said if you have any problems just bring it in.... Granted that's 4-8 weeks?

So my math is:

140 - 40 = 100 + tax = 105.xx - 2 x 40 MIRs = 25.xx (no local Staples here, so i didn't even bother trying to use the coupon, and i didn't have one anyway)

Cool!

I had the same experience but with no nice lady. How can I get the 3rd rebate? Thx for this red hot deal!!

Local store has them for $99 after 2 $20 rebates, seems that's what they have it listed for online. Same drive HD1200JR.I can't find any CC ad. that has them listed for $20? Not sure if I pick one up if I'll be able to use rebate forms printed from link above??

Well, I was going down to Savannah, GA today anyway so I checked on availability at their CC online and it showed avail. for pickup at that store. Got there and after searching the locked storage bin, one was found.

Then I asked about the rebates.......the salesperson checked and came back saying it was 2 rebates......$139.99 - $40 - $40 = $59.99. I'd printed out the hangtag that was posted above, along with the rebate form scans, and had him earn his money. Took a while....at first, he came back saying he could only find the two, not the third. But this was apparently only a quick check through their system and not by the rebate numbers.

Away he went to run the rebate numbers to see if he could locate the third one. Came back after a while and said neither he nor the manager could find any signs of the third rebate. Oh well, I didn't need the drive anyway......was going to buy it because who can turn down a 120GB WD hd for $20?

I was about to politely decline the drive when the salesperson said the manager had said to go ahead and match the hangtag scan's price, so I bought the drive for $99.99 out the door with 2 $40 rebates in hand. End result, a $19.99 120GB WD hd without any hard work at all.

Gotta give props to everyone who provided the scans.........much appreciated because they worked!!! And props to the salesperson who was persistant in getting it approved.

PS.........ran the S/N on WD's website and even though the package says 1 year, the WD site says the warranty runs through 9/2006.

I called CC Rebate Customer Service this afternoon and was told that YB273 rebate form will be available online and at stores tomorrow, 12/15. So keep checking...unfortunately, you will have to purchase it today so that all 3 rebates will be accepted. Otherwise, if you purchase tomorrow, only YB270 and YB273 will apply as Y9980 will expire 12/14.

Amazing there are only 2 pages of postings about this here--there are 74 pages so far at FW in this thread:

http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/messageview.php?catid=24&threadid=252406

The gist of it seems to be that there was some sort of error--the rebate was supposed to start on the 18th if I understand it right--but Circuit City will honor the third rebate (YB273) and will put up a new form for that rebate (which someone in the thread says should be up Thursday). Meanwhile (on page 73) a guy named NJGuy heard from Young America that the PO Box on the third rebate form is now valid--it previously wasn't--so if you have the form and you want to send it, it should go to the PO box on the form (i.e. PO Box 4624).

On page 74, JimmyWalt says this (I changed the PO Box from 3650 to 4624 since previously YA was telling people to send it to 3650, a generic PO Box at YA, because PO Box 4624 hadn't yet been opened):

If you don't have the 3rd form, do the following:
Blank sheet of paper write:
Job# 8882-1179
YB273
HDD-HD1200JR
Purchase Date
Your name/address
Include a COPY of the UPC and Receipt.

Mail all to:
Circuit City Rebates
Box 4624
Young America, MN 55558-4624

BTW, one of the rebates required a purchase by 12/14, so if you didn't get a receipt dated by then, you won't get 3 rebates.

In any case, don't take my word for this stuff--go to the thread linked above and select "Print Topic" (just above the 74 numbered links to the pages) which doesn't actually cause anything to be printed but rather opens a window that will have all 74 pages worth of text in it so you can just scroll down or page down quickly rather than having to load each page. Or just read the thread backwards (starting with the last page and moving backwards until you have learned what you need to know).

And if the answer is not there yet, bookmark it so you can breathlessly follow the soap opera in the days to come :)

Enjoy.

OK, I have a question, please. :)

Although these drives say 1 year warranty on the packaging, many have reported 3 year warranty when checking on Western Digital's site. I special ordered two, CC got them in yesterday, and I picked them up. When I check the warranty status, it says there is none!

I thought about calling WD, but I figured I would give it a couple days to see if the warranty status changed, that they "somehow" get notified of when each drive is sold. I know this is possible, as I once bought 8 drives at the same time, and every one had the exact same warranty, despite different production dates. Obviously I am hesitant to cut out the upc's to process the rebates, as long as it shows no warranty.

Anybody else having this experience? Any suggestions?

Btw, the CC employees still say they know nothing about the third rebate form. Luckily I got the instant $40 adjustment and don't have to worry about sending it. And no, I am not going to commit fraud and send for the third rebate.

If they aren't instore, ask them to special order it ... they will do that.. then, pay for it in full right when they special order it so that the rebates print out and the receipt shows that you purchased it on that date. Make sure you pay in full right there.

Doesn't matter when you pay in full. If you order when the rebates are valid, you can get the drive weeks later and the purchase date will be the order date. Just did this with the 250GB deal a few weeks ago. I picked up the drive via Special Order about 1 week past the rebates, they still printed out and the purchase date was valid for the rebates ;)

Better hope you get your rebates cause you're not supposed to get them unless you paid for it...IN FULL.

Just to let you guys know...this hard drives are actually Western Digital hard drives (Not repackaged as circuit city ones). The only difference is this doesn't come with the ATA card (that some of the higher ones in retail have) and only have a 1 year warranty instead of a 3 year warranty.

Typed in my S/N on the WD site and it tells me my warranty is good until July of 2006, so I have 2 ½ years anyway.

The remaining question is if I take a chance on that third rebate - Sure doesn?t appear that CC is going to post that third rebate, and with each day that passes chances are less and less?
