Every site on their pearljam server was hacked last night, changed to some crap about the war in Lebanon. Not sure about the other servers.

I'm in the process of moving all of my domains to a VPS anyway... this just gave me the kick in the pants I needed to finish it up.
 
several of us have warned people of Sonataweb...it is a disaster waiting to happen🙁

baked: when the previous owner sold the company, the people who took the reigns stopped caring about their customers. i assume this is some payback or proof that there is nobody who cares about running a business behind the wheel there anymore. to be honest, i don't really care... i had a backup host when i was hacked so it wasn't much of a hassle for me (especially since i had backed up earlier that day).
 
Man, I'm on another Sonataweb server, and we got hacked a few weeks back. Good job sonataweb.

Yes, so far I've been very pleased with my experience with Steadfast. After my experience with Sonata I've been blown away by the speed. With Sonata the server would go down frequently, any time I tried to upload a large amount of files many of them would fail, and it was just generally slow. To the point that I stopped using the server for e-mail because I couldn't bear to use the webmail. (I use gMail Hosted now).

What really pisses me off is that they claim that whoever hacked the server also deleted all of the backups. That strikes me as odd, because
1. They claim to make offsite backups
2. The only files that were modified on the server were index.* and home.* files. They didn't delete anything else, so I'm not sure what the point of deleting all of the (offsite) backups would be.

Worst. Webhost. Ever.
 
Yep, I'm fubared as well.
My main page is down, cpanel is fuxored. I can browse to my subdirectories though.

Reason I didnt change a while ago when I was warned is because I dont have a uber important website. That said, I will be moving after this.

That said, my website is now some Disney MGM crap. 😕
 
Moral of the story if you care about proper continuity of your web service: go with a big multinational provider like 1&1. My sites have never gone down with them and their control panel provides enough flexibility to get stuff done. $10 a month with solid service is chump change.

BTW, I think all of these cheap hosting companies like sonata, hostpc ...hell just about anything talked about on webhostingtalk.com is likely run by a bunch of kids.

I dunno, I still like hostpc for the cost. nothing I have is of dire importance, and DA rocks. I believe Joe is a man true to his words. Although, I hope he isn't spreading himself too thin acquiring quite a couple of hosts.

Yes, hopefully. What scares me is when a company puts the word "budget" into their name 😉

I've been a very happy 1&1 customer for the last 5 years. I can't even remember the last time I had a complaint about their service. It's always been fast and not once has it gone down. Rock solid dependability. They charge too little for their level of service IMO.

On the otherhand I've played around with these other cheap hosts like Sonata and it's been nothing but headaches and embarrassment to my clients. Sometimes mail won't come through, sites are hacked, down from routine maintenance (what do they do run it on PCs???!) etc. I can't recommend them for anything. Cheap but that's what you get..and less at that especially if you value your time.

I prefer big cluster reliability and dependability. Go with the big providers.

I'm still using Canaca, still haven't had a problem ever. If ever I have an issue, I email them and it's fixed within a few hours at most.

No, you're right. Fortunately, I had backups so there was no damage, but as soon as I have a little time, I'm going to switch.

I only use my SonataWeb resellers account for my free web hosting clients. My paying clients mean the world to me and I will only trust premium web hosts which start at $35/mo for their hosting needs.

With these budget web host providers you'll probably changed web host providers every 6 months. With my premium web hosts, I have been with them for 2+ years and don't plan on switching anytime soon 🙂

You get what you pay for!!!
