In the UK they can afford to go to any of them, they won't get accepted unless they are good enough though, which means that only the best go to the best, which is a good way of doing it. If they are capable then they certainly could go to a college, get qualified to go to Cambridge or Oxford of UCL no problem.

Uni might not be free in the UK, but you don't have to pay it back until you earn over a certain amount per year, and even then it's very cheap to pay off, some people don't ever pay their university fees off...

BTW of is London doing vis a vi the riots. Have you seen anything yourself?

Only the aftermath, I've seen some smashed up roads, police tape closing some of them, ruined shops, burned down buildings etc. Nothing actually kicking off as I haven't been there at night.

I get the impression the riots are pretty much over now.

fixing the legal aspect is just as important as the rest of healthcare reform. the public is extremely litigious and many people expect 100% error free medicine when there is no such thing.

they just call yours taxes

They can afford it because they only have 1 tank. So Canada does not have the political or military influence our words carry.

When we tell you to jump, you better jump. If Canada says anything, you will probably laugh. :)

Have fun with your words of power. I'll take my Universal Health Care, longer lifespan and lower level of violent crimes and play over here.

as a medical student, i try and see what most doctors think about universal healthcare...it seems that just about all of the ones against it are the ones who have found a way to work the system (not illegally or anything, just found ways to make tons of money). when you work in the system, you see that we end up paying more for the uninsured anyway and get worse results. haven't heard a solid argument against it so far.

imo, a single payer system would have more leverage and could work with the medical establishment to set up better protocols and lower unnecessary testing and treatments.

Got stuck with a 5200 dollar bill to lay in a bed and have some saline.
If I had called 911 it would have been 500 more for the ambulance.
