Just learned about this tragedy a few nights ago over a dinner conversation with family friends...

A family friend and her family (husband and two sons) took a vacation to China a few years back. During the course of their trip the youngest son went missing. They searched everywhere and could not find the son and so they finally gave up and returned back to the US. A few years later the family returned to China for another trip. They had already given up on their missing son, but randomly on the street the see a boy with no legs and no arms that looked like their son. It was their son.

Apparently it is not uncommon for people in China to kidnap children, cut off their arms and legs, and use them as a source of generating income by begging on the streets. They will drop them off in the morning and pick them back up at night.

Can people be more cruel and selfish?

<<< start searching snopes.com

I don't believe this one bit

it would be almost impossible to survive a 4 limb amputation, even in the United States, let alone whatever kind of operating capacities kidnappers have...

I see this story as:

"La dee dah, won't ever find our son again, he's dead. OH WELL.
WAIT, there MIGHT BE ANOTHER CHANE TO FIND HIM!
OH LOOK, THERE HE IS!
IT'S A MIRACLE!
*le gasp*"

"hey we can't find our son"
"well we better catch our flight, or we will have to pay a fee"

"you know where we should vacation!"
"where??"
"in china! where we lost our son!"

well, i can't verify this since i don't know that family personally. but my aunt told me the story and she is friends with her. then again....since nobody believes the story maybe she's lying.

i know of some messed up stories that happened in China first hand, but this is by far the worst. I'm not going to ask my aunt if I can meet the family to verify the legitimacy of the story though.

why is it so hard to believe? like making pork buns out of human flesh hard to believe? seeing how messed up society can be nowadays it doesn't surprise me that this could be real.

i dont know how much time they spent in china looking for their son before they gave up. but what are you going to do if you've searched for months/years? put your life and your families lives on halt and never move on? at some point, as cold as this may sound, you have to move on.

that's what made me think the story is bs. there is no way i would've given up and left without my kid. i would take up permanent residence until i found him.
