<--- look at person in white tshirt on the left..... case in point.

This is not a case in point. No one is doubting that deformed or maimed children are forced into begging either by circumstances or by others taking advantage of them. The story was about an American boy being kidnapped, having his limbs removed, and then made to beg. If you belive that then I guess you'll believe me when I tell you that I just caught my own fart as it came out of my butt and it turned green when I blew on it.

A lot of people are doubting deformed or maimed children are forced into begging. The American boy was born American, but still Chinese. Do you think people in China really care if the boy was American? Furthermore, do you think they cared to ask?

I don't see anywhere in the original post that mentions the boy was Chinese. The story was about a family going on vacation to China.

If I didn't say...why did you make assumptions?

LOL. Sure. after two days of hard work they leave china, and their child. Then they go back for ANOTHER trip, and because we all know china's so small, they just get a 1 in a gazzilion chance, and find their lost missing son on the streets. Sure. They also didn't notify the US embassy, or the police, because it would've been so hard finding him if the Chinese really looked for him (if the kid was really forced to beg for money)

who said two days? I said I didn't know how long they stayed looking for their son? Could have been days, weeks, months, years? I didn't ask.

So, you post a hard to believe story with key details missing and get all hoity-toity when people call shens?

Perhaps you could start by improving your story telling....

That Americans assume that things work the same way they do in other countries. I don't think that sentence was that hard to understand.

I don't know why. But what I can tell you is there are an abundance of ransom cases in Asia. Most are very wealthy business mens son. Li KaShings son was held ransom multiple times....I don't see that making headline news in the US.

A lot of foreign news never makes it into the states. Instead we get segments on how an old man is reunited with his Stolen Corvette.

You may call us gullable. We may think you're naive.

Again, I don't doubt that stuff like this happens in other coutries. But the OP gave the impression of it being an American family going on vacation in China. If this had happened to an American family, I'm certain we would have heard about it.

Even if the original abduction wasn't news worthy, footage or pictures of the boy with all his limbs amputated being reunited with his family would have made it into the news if only to raise ratings.

My point was to share a story, not to convince you. I don't care if you believe me or not. I dont see why my aunt would make up this story. Furthermore I don't see why my aunts friend could make a story up like this. Whether its true or not...things like this do happen and I don't care if you believe me or not.

Did they cut off his limbs with a lightsaber? Or do the bandits have world-class surgeons working for them too?

I would question the cost/benefit analysis of having a boy undergo major surgery removing his limbs (and his usefulness) just so he could beg on the street for Chinese currency.

They could probably make more money selling him into slavery, or harvesting his organs.

So, they have at least one disfigured person in China? That's pretty concrete proof of a mass conspiracy to kidnap tourist's children, torture and mangle them, then put them on the streets as beggers for profit. Nice work, detective!

its proof that things like this do occur for those who doubt it ever happens.

Because there are no accidents in China? They have no farm implements or factory equipment that could cause disabilities? Anyone with any form of disfigurement is obviously the product of a kidnapping and torture for profit scheme? One that makes enough bank to employee master surgeons to make sure the children don't die of blood-loss, massive infections, etc. And one that is still stupid enough to think that an able-bodied child is more useful for panhandling than for ransom, slave labor, or prostitution?

That's horrible! Once I get my $250K from Bill Gates for forwarding all that email, I'm going to do something about this! :|

Would your family happen to be Taiwanese?

No, not my family. My family is from HK. I was born here, but I have lived in HK for a few years.

What's wrong with you people?

If I only saw one or 2 kids like this in my 10 day trip i would agree with it being an accident, but let me tell you, EVERY place we toured was littered with disfigured children, and even when I was there i asked myself "how is this possible" i HIGHLY doubt all of these kids were mangled by accident, and just by the way they were flaunting their injuries made me question whether all of these people were mangled by accident.....

and, i realize that the story was about an American, not a Chinese person, however my point was to proove that things like that happen over in China, and i do not find the OP's story hard to believe.

Hold on there Skippy. The story sounds a lot like BS. When the people in France were burning cars, did we hear about it? When that girl disappeared in Aruba, did we hear about it? When anyone visits Castro for lunch from this country, don't we hear about it?

What makes you think it wouldn't make the headlines or that 60 minutes wouldn't do a story about it. They live for stories like this one.

story itself is probably fake, but this stuff does happen...

Right... Then why the fake story?

Because people by nature are skeptical as is evident with this thread.

Well the details could be fabricated (family actually going back and recognizing their child), but the kidnapping and extortion still occurs...

Clearly, just because it hasn't been on the news it musn't be real.....

The problem is you won't know about the news that you don't hear about? Being bilingual I've heard and read news from other countries that is worthy of coverage but never mentioned in American Media.

Being a frequent traveller I think America is concerned mainly with American related news. Other countries are far more interested in foreign affairs in relation to the US. Just my opinion.

Okay, how about this fact. You go somewhere and something terrible happens (like you loose you own son). Later, you decide to take your family back to the SAME place you lost your son? Why, so another family member can come up missing so you can have another story to pass along for dinner conversation? Shens, pure and simple. You people are so gulible.

by the way, I have a billion dollars in an offshore account. If you send me $18,000, I will split it with you. Any takers?

So, it's not a first hand story from a family friend anymore. Now it's a story from an aunt about one of her friends?

well, now I AM convinced. Stop the senseless torture!!!

And you are so naive my friend. FYI - China is quite big.
