No. Knew I was getting a severance, so haven't said anything. Now I think the boss is going to wait until Monday and that is too late. New job starts Monday.
60 day severance is a fair chunk of change. Considering they already planned to eliminate my position before I accepted a new job, I don't feel bad in the slightest on trying to get them to force their hand in the next day or two.
I work for a very large parent organization so things like eliminating a position take a good 4 months of planning before they are implemented.
I wouldn't either.

+1 for FMLA :p

Considering they are well aware that I just bought a house, they have an open position on the team that they could easily train me, I don't feel bad at all.
My little division will be downsized to about 2 people within 2 or 3 years.

As soon as he gets in today I am going to tell him I am bored and want to know what plans they have for me going forward.

Yea, I do need to say I need Monday off. No ability for him to delay things then.

Should be entertaining confronting him. Wonder if he will try to stonewall things or just come clean and let me know that effective Monday I am laid off.

I'm still betting he went to bat for ya and had the layoff pulled.

"Uppsala9496, I know you do not have a lot to do right now but you'll never believe they were going to lay you off. I went to bat and got them to keep you and I'll find work for ya next Monday."

HA! No, the big boss from out of town is ruthless as fuck and is the only behind it all. Dude is horrible. He is the reason I bet my division gets downsized to 1 or 2 people in the next couple of years.

The whole severance can be pulled if you leave voluntarily.

So, you need to be on the clock in some way, up to the point that they notify you.

Play it carefully, at this point, you have the upper hand because you know and you have a job lined up.

The severance package is icing planned for the cake but do not burn the cake

Had a conversation, no hints dropped. Extremely disappointed in how he handled it. I know the end game. I now have confirmed that Monday is the day.

Just get it over with.

Some places i think it is required. A bunch of people where i work got laid off recently. All the salary people got severance packages based on their time working here and the hourly folks... well they got screwed. they got nothing other than a 90 day notice they were going to be out of a job. didn't matter if you'd been working here for 30 years. Fucking assholes.

Edit: as the OP probably knows, the severance package can be pulled if the terms aren't met. With what you have lined up, i hope it isn't an advanced notice where they expect you to keep working there for x amount of time than the severance package kicks in. I don't remember if you saw your termination date or notice date. The salary people here had to work out their 90 day notice or lose the severance package. except for the 3 they sent home right after the notification. they got paid for not working 90 days and the severance package.

Asked for Monday and Tuesday off and was told Monday probably won't work, but Tuesday looked fine.

If nothing happens this afternoon, tomorrow I am going to say that I won't be in Monday because of some reason (need to think of an excuse). That should force the hand then.

And I won't be in Monday no matter what. Will be a shame to have sat here all week when I could have been at home...oh well, gamble is worth it.

Who the fuck makes someone come in on a Monday to lay them off? You work for dipshits.

I got called in on my day off just to be laid off and sign HR paperwork once..... i was not happy. I saw the lay off coming as i'd survived 3, but calling me in on my day off....

I hate to say it but I think you're going to get screwed out of the severance and what comes with it. Is there any way your boss got wind of your intentions? It would be brownie points for him to save the company some bucks.

I once got fired via email on a Monday morning on my way into work. Boss and I had previously had a conversation that went something like this:

Boss: Other person in office who you don't work with at all doesn't like you and says I should fire you.
Me: I see. Do you think I deserve to be fired?
Boss: No. I think you do great work.
Me: So... maybe don't fire me.
Boss: Ok.

A few weeks later...

Boss: This person is still saying I should fire you.
Me: Did she say why?
Boss: Not really.
Me: Er... ok. Am I still doing a good job?
Boss: Yes.

A few weeks later (via email on a Monday morning)...

With regret, we are terminating your employment effective immediately. We're not giving you a reason, but here's two months severance. Subtext: Sorry I'm such a spineless jellyfish whose tentacles are made out of dicks.
