Don't don anything. Don't even force his hand. Just call in Monday and tell him that you have a personal situation that you can't come in. He'll be rather upset so you offer to swing by around lunch time for 30 mins. He'll give you the news Monday.

Thank him for the experience and the package. Say bye to your co-workers and clean out your desk.

Well, the hand was forced. Mentioning that I would like Monday off is what did it.

Nice that the company is so generous, sadly it doesn't work out in my favor.
60 day transition period where I still work, can apply internally, can do some random education stuff, etc.
Then after the 60 days, I am laid off with 60 days severance pay.

Would have to stay employed with them for the next 60 days to get the 60 days severance after that. That obviously doesn't work.

Well, it was worth the gamble. Had I not answered the door last week, I never would have had a clue and would have resigned this previous Monday.

Having a coffee at home right now and will show up around 10 this morning to let them know that I am resigning. Boss was super nervous yesterday and I do feel bad for him. Sort of.

Oh and after the talk yesterday I was told I should go home since it is a lot of information to digest. Ended up getting a little yard work done yesterday afternoon so that is why there was no update.

Yea, it did have a shitty conclusion. I was hoping I would have gotten that $14K. Would have been some nice extra cash - 7 months mortgage.

if it makes you feel better, I can't get a new prescription refill on my meds until the 26th per the insurance company. That doesn't help me. Maybe I can call and say I accidentally dropped them all in the toilet so I can get a refill.
New insurance has a 30 day hold. Don't want to have to go on my wife's for a month. Lots of extra paperwork. And paying cash....one of them is $135. All that for some weak ass cholesterol meds. Go big pharma.

the good news is, you are getting out of that shithole and moving on to a new company, hopefully working with (and for) better people.

Oh well, at least you tried. Maybe you could offer to be available for questions for the next 60 days in exchange for the severance? :D

Please keep us posted on how your resignation went.

Will do. Should take about 15 minutes. Only personal item is my Blackhawks calendar that I forgot to take yesterday. Cleaned my desk out last week.

So they were going to have you continue to do nothing for 60 days and then give you another 60 days worth of severance? Which you said was $14k. So they were going to pay you $28k to do nothing for 60 days? No wonder this place is in the shitter.

That is exactly right.
And it was hinted that about 30 days into it I was going to be allowed to stay at home and just be honest with them in saying if I got a new position or not.

New job Monday which I am excited about. Much more stable company and run by people who actually know what they are doing. Very exciting.

Call doctor and ask if they can give you some samples.

my understanding is Pharmacists really hate this excuse as they hear it all too often from people on controlled meds that are taking more than they should or selling them. You said yours is for cholesterol, so may not matter; but try something else. As about a vacation override. you only need to wait 30 days so that should work i would think. A vacation override is for people going on vacation and would otherwise run out of meds while on vacation. Usually insurance companies will ok this as long as it doesn't happen often. which in your case it will not.

Also, don't you get a 30 day grace period/extension after you're let go? I forget what i got lat time i got laid off and what the people that got laid off here recently got. Maybe that's just employer choice.

good luck at your new job.

Try negotiating... can't hurt to try. Just say that you want 2 weeks severance and today would be your last day. Worst they can say is no.

When our place gives severences it has a clause you can't take a new job for 3-6 months or you forfeit.

This would seem strange in a severance package. I have seen plenty of non-compete agreements in employment contracts where you can't go to work for a company in the same industry typically within a geographic area of a business. Courts in at will employment states typically won't enforce said contracts, unless really airtight. If the severance has those types of provisions make sure you thoroughly understand them and the ramifications of said provisions.
