'It’s a farce': Dems livid as Hope Hicks dodges questions

https://www.politico.com/story/2019/06/19/hope-hicks-testimony-trump-oversight-1368164

"Several House Judiciary Committee members exiting the closed-door interview said a White House lawyer repeatedly claimed Hicks had blanket immunity from discussing her time in the White House. They said she wouldn’t answer questions as basic as where she sat in the West Wing or whether she told the truth to Mueller.

“We’re watching obstruction of justice in action,” said Rep. Ted Lieu (D-Calif.).

“It’s a farce,” added Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.), who said Hicks at one point tried to answer a question about an episode involving former Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski only to be cut off by the White House counsel."

Obstruction in realtime. Yay 🙂.

Does anyone know what questions she is legally required to answer? Congress is not all powerful, they are constrained by the Constitution just like the rest of us.

Once again, her lawyers are claiming non-executive privilege privilege. There is either execute priviledge or there is no priviledge. This is something that only this administration claims the existance of. I really don't understand how they keep getting away with this. Supena her ass!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Funny how your average republican voter can't use this absolute immunity crap when a cop pulls them over but they continue to support these privileged elites who think they are above the law. These republicans think they are better than their voters and shouldn't have to answer to anyone. At what point are they going to wake up and see things as they are instead of blindly believing what they are spoon fed?

She declined to answer whether there was war in the middle east during her tenure. Apparently the white house claims executive privilege over history books now.

She would have immunity .. if it were not for the fact that she already spilled a lot to Mueller .. In essense, as I understand it, they can ask into anything that she has already talked aboutish with Mueller ... What team Trumptard is doing here is revoking that ... I dont think you can do that? So I guess its heading to the judges?

Impeachment would only be any good if you could get all the GOP to actually vote him out..which is never going to happen. It is almost meaningless otherwise.

Republicans tried to impeach and remove Clinton from office, knowing that few Democrats would join them. Eventually it died in the Senate, leaving history to record that the House Republicans tried to impeach the President for lying about a blow job and the Senate thought it a waste of time. That's history now.

The Democrats need to do the same thing, except this time history will record that when the House hands it off to the Senate, Mitch and his boys refused to impeach the President for obstruction of justice, witness tampering and his numerous other abuses of power. I am quite comfortable in letting history record that the House voted to impeach the criminal residing there and Mitch and his Republicans in the Senate refusing to do anything about it.

That history would look a hell of a lot better than recording that the Democrats decided to do nothing and let the President get away with his crimes.

not necessarily. if the house votes to impeach and the senate doesn't remove, with the all the evidence becoming public, the dems can and should pound the repubs on their obstruction. it's more obvious with trump than it was with clinton so the dems should come out better than the rebubs did 20 years ago.

You would deprive people of their civil rights. Gotcha.

Hell, all they would have to do is plead the 5th. Of course that wouldn't look as good to the Republican base as just flat out obstructing justice, would it? That's why they are fighting tooth and nail from having to say anything in front of a congressional committee. This is a show for their base and it's all they have. House Democrats kick that out from under them and it's all on Mitch to save the day.

The Republican party is a now controlled by criminals and no longer a real political party. I would like to see our RICO laws applied to them because they sure fit the description of a continuing criminal enterprise at this point.

Republicans, with the exception of a few like Amash, make me ashamed to be an American.

I can handle us having different points of view on policy, but corrupting our checks and balances and pulling this emperor shit is something I cannot forgive.

There is something defective about the conservative mind these days—they’d rather give up their American freedoms and bow to an undeserving king as long as he thinks like they do.

I don't think the general population cares about a history lesson. You still have half the country who thinks highly of Trump even if impeached. The people who want impeachment want him out of office. Maybe rather than removal they could pass the 'no running for any office' so that he couldn't run for a 2nd term but I doubt that would pass either. I would much rather guarantee no 2nd term, than a slap on the wrist for the sake of someone saying 'look what these guys did back in 2016'.

Who gives a flying fuck about what people care about now, I wish I could be around 100 years from now to read about this fucked up era. You either do the right thing or our Constitution is little more than toilet paper. Polling to see if someone should be prosecuted is fucking nuts. Either the law is the law or it's a toothless bunch of words that have no meaning and thus are absolutely nothing to base the principles of a nation upon.

We're going to find that our real soon, all we can do is wait and watch.
