I dont like Granny Smith to eat on their own. Too tart IMO. I prefer Braebrun apples for just eating by themselves. Honeycrisp are very good as well.

Agreed OP, honeycrisp's are way overrated, almost as overrated as Pink Ladies. Granny Smith FTW!

Grapples >>>>> all other apples.

A shame they're hard to find and cost so damn much though :(

wtf? really? A grapple is not a fucking apple--at least not the hybrid that they seem to have convinced the fools.

it is a crappy apple injected with some sugary grape juice substitute.

wtf do people buy this crap?

You shut your whore mouth! :colbert:

Honestly, I rarely encounter someone that has actually heard of pink lady. All I ever hear is honeycrisp this, honeycrisp that...blah blah. I don't think they can possibly be as overrated as they don't seem to have nearly the following.

They can be found most of the year, too. Honeycrisps have that "OMG, they are IN! rush the stores!" following.

had my first HoneyCrisp the other day...

i'll give them +1 on size... my apple was nearly a pound in weight... but way too expensive... $3 a pound.. not worth it... too much hype.

So... I finally found some Grapples in the grocery and decided I had to try it out. $2.99 for four. A bit expensive for apples, but not too bad.

But they suck.

They smell like artificial grape juice (like the welch's stuff that kids drink). The apple it self is mostly mushy. It's sort of sweet, but only because they injected it with grape juice. They took probably the worst base apple possible.

This!!!!!!

I was reading this thread, going WTF, no love for the Pink Lady? They're awesome, and slather on some peanut butter and *eyes roll into back of head*. Yeah, I'm a dog like that.

I used to love Granny Smith, but they actually make me nauseous now (which is weird because Red Delicious used to). I remember picking not fully ripened ones off the Apple tree at my grandma's. They tasted like good sour apple candy flavors (were even close in potency). They couldn't compare to unripened grapes right off the vine though, now that is the perfect mix of sweet and sour.

dude...I already posted that in this thread.

THEY ARE PUMPED WITH GRAPEJUICE.

they are shitty apples injected with shitty sugar purple drank. it's marketing insanity run amok. Tracking onto the hybrid fruit craze, they throw in another diabeetus delivery system to fool people into thinking they are eating food.

I don't know about apples, but if your watermelons are flavorless, someone is doing something wrong.

Winesap's the best apple, but Granny Smith, Pink Lady, and Honeycrisp are all ok when you can't find the best.

Reading thread reminded me of the Royal Gala on the table that needed eaten. Hmm, not too sweet, fairly crisp, just starting to get grainy.

So can we all agree that red delicious apples are nasty and flavorless?

I enjoy honeycrisps for their consistency in flavor and texture. I also like red delicious apples when I can find an insanely dark one that is extraordinarily sweet. Pink ladies are up there, but I've had too many meh ones. A perfect Stayman-winesap is probably the best apple out there.

I know you did, I had to try them out myself.

I would've been half satisfied if it tasted like sugary grape drank, but it honestly tasted like a slightly sweeter apple. Still not as sweet as a honeycrisp or pink lady though.

+2 for fuji apples. there was a harvest at an orchard near my house last weekend, but all the fuji trees were picked already. got some stayman winesaps and they are pretty good, a mixture of tart and sweetness

and for me no love for pink lady. they are sour as fack everytime i have them. they are crisp though and probably really good for baking.

Honeycrisps are awesome. I like Braeburn apples too. Had a cold one last night... delicious.
