Crisp, yes. Flavor just isn't there. It's like biting into a nice summer watermelon that hasn't been ripened in the sun long enough. Just a light hint of flavor, but tons of water. I don't get what the big deal is about these. They don't even taste like "apple".

Back to Granny Smith I go.

We have three honeycrisp trees. Unfortunately, an early frost last spring killed all the buds.. :(

Probably b/c you ate the ghetto version, try a Honeycrisp.

No man, I'm eating the gangsta version. Get it right.

I really don't understand why people eat any apple other than granny smith anyway.

Very true. A chilled Granny Smith > all. However other apples DO have their places too. Some are particularly good for cider. Some are particularly good for pies. Not all are good for eating raw though.

I have noticed the quality go down for Honeycrisps the last few years.

Maybe you got a bad one? They should take like you're drinking apple cider. It's a very sweet apple. The fact that you like granny smiths tells me you like sour intense flavors, so this may not be the apple for you.

I don't know what you talking about.

I understand the minimal-flavor watermelon concept - but I've never experienced that with a honeycrisp. The ones I've had were bursting with flavor, just the right amount of tartness and sweetness, with a nice balance between watery and crispiness. Not mealy, not pure crispness, not composed of mostly water like a watermelon.

In short, they are just pure deliciousness. I don't go wild over watermelon like some people - I'll eat some, but I don't go nuts over it, because there just doesn't seem to be much to them. Not enough satisfaction eating them, unless it's insanely hot outside and I'm thirsty/hungry.

It had a vague cider taste, but far too watered down. But re: Granny Smith, yes, I have a tremendous sour tooth. Hell, I enjoyed snacking on wild cherries and crab apples when growing up in NY. But given I grew up in NY, I had basically my fill of apples. Honeycrisp (this is the second I've eaten this week) is simply "meh".

nothing beats Golden D.
get yo act straight!

Granny Smith does. But I'll take a nice ripe golden delicious as a distant second to a Granny.

I picked up some Honeycrisps last week, while it wasnt an intense flavor, I liked the crispness of the apple. So if I had to choose between apples it would be a Fuji or Honeycrisp for myself

I hate mushy apples without a crunch when you bite into them

this pretty much reflects my opinion of the honeycrisp--vastly overrated, imo.

Grapples >>>>> all other apples.

A shame they're hard to find and cost so damn much though :(

I don't agree. I love Granny Smith, have eaten at least one a day for years. Occasionally I venture into Golden Delicious territory but I stay away from anything on the red end of the spectrum.

I picked up two HoneyCrisps at Trader Joe's along with my regular Granny Smith load. Holy cow they were fantastic. The past couple falls I've been unimpressed with them but I think you just need to get a really good one. They were way crispy and less dense than GS, less tart, but way sweeter. Almost tasted like candy.

You must turn Honeycrips sideways when eating, otherwise they won't taste right.

Gala, Honeycrip, Golden Delicious, Braeburn, Granny Smith are all delicious. It's not really worth debating between them.

What we all can agree on though is that Red Delicious are nasty pieces of shit and anyone who eats them and thinks they are good apples needs to die in a fire.
